With AT&T closing their gateway in June 2025, it has affected our patrons that have a service provider that had used that gateway. At this time, we do not have the ability to send texts to those patrons even if it is their preferred method for notifications. We would like to integrate with a third-party for SMS and email, however since we are part of a consortium, proquest-exlibris support informed us that there are no settings that can be changed on the SMTP server that would not have other effects on the other libraries. Specifically disabling PolEmailManager so that we did not have to use Polaris email notices.
Preference for text notifications have increased and I'm sure more gateways will end, decreasing options for notifications, especially in a consortium setting with how it is configured in Polaris.
