  1. The volume field might seem straightforward, but when it's not standardized—or when anyone can input anything—it quickly becomes a source of frustration, especially with holds and sorting. Imagine a patron placing a hold on “Volume 2,” but one record says “v.2,” another says “Vol 2,” and another just “2”… chaos ensues.

    Making that field permission-based could go a long way in preserving data consistency and reducing hold errors. It puts a bit more control in the hands of cataloging staff or system administrators

  2. No that we have migrated from Sierra to Polaris, the call number field is not included in the SIP response when using an inventory wand. At this point we only see the barcode and title of an item, which makes it more difficult to find identified items.

We use ChiliFresh as a source for cover images and we also use their service to upload custom images for missing covers, kits, etc. After the MARC record is updated with the custom image tag, the new image shows up in the PowerPAC immediately. However, it never shows up in Leap. Leap is already pulling images from ChiliFresh (as well as other sources) for the cover images in Leap's item and bib records. It's really weird that it doesn't pull from the same source to get the custom image attached to the record.

  4. I think it would be helpful to automatically create an association between accounts when creating a new account by copying an existing one, e.g., using a parent's account to create a child's account. The Block and Allow options should still be checked manually, though.
    The association could be removed after account creation, if necessary.

  5. The new patron import process will be a major improvement for handling student data, but it still requires significant data formatting before uploading through LEAP. It would be incredibly helpful if libraries could create their own templates to define how data is mapped to specific CSV columns, including logic for assigning patron codes or populating fields like UDFs. This kind of flexibility would greatly reduce the staff time needed to prepare files for import.

  6. Adding the ability to add / update the Polaris username field as an alternative barcode for students/patrons would be hugely beneficial in the import process. This would allow us to have a student ID as a barcode and a former library barcode for patrons to use at the expresscheck.

We would like, when items with a Withdrawn status are returned by patrons in a good enough condition to still circulate, for the replacement fees associated with the item to auto-waive in the same way that items with a Lost status can auto-waive. This would prevent confusion at the circulation desk and streamline the check-in process.

  8. When our library transitioned from Sierra to Polaris, our Sierra serial check-in cards could not be transitioned. We have several serials that go back decades. In order to make the "Library Has" field display correctly in Vega, I currently create a publication pattern that begins with the earliest issue. I can then either extrapolate check-in boxes and check in every single back issue (which is a huge pain in Leap, because issues can only be checked in one at a time), or I can skip to the most recent issue received after the transition.   9. Currently, if a patron places a hold using the one-click request feature when pickup areas are also enabled, a pickup area isn't assigned to that hold request at all. For libraries with more than one pickup area, this is an important feature. Please add the ability for one-click requests to maybe even auto-assign that branch's default pickup area.

  10. When a library card is expired a large red box appears on the screen to say the library card is expired. Can we get that same type of box for an account that has a balance and a Blocking note?

  13. We would like the ability to compare bibliographic records in Leap with ones from an outside source, like z39.50. This is a key part of our cataloguing process and is a necessary piece to moving those staff members over to Leap.

  14. At this time, the EAN is not being used to add the images from Syndetics to the PowerPAC or Vega. There are many products that have EANs instead of UPCs. Many libraries have been requesting that images be added for these products so that patrons can have an idea of what the item is before they check it out. We have asked Syndetics about it and they do have the images for these products. In fact, the images are appearing in Leap.   15. When printing spine labels from an item record in the client, you can choose to print multiple of that same label. I would like to have that functionality in Leap. This will be helpful when processing multiple of the same item without having to send the label request for each individual item.

  16. In our 21-branch library system, staff need the ability to mark items as Damaged or Missing—even if the item is not owned or assigned to their specific branch. Currently, the process requires multiple logins and workstation changes, creating inefficiencies that impact service.

    We've encountered lots of item management issues since migrating from SirsiDynix Symphony. Most recent issue was with handling lost-and-returned items.   17. When you create a search to then send to record set we would like option to go Back to Search. Sometimes we only grab part of the initial results into a record set and we would like to go back to the larger list to grab additional items to add into a completely different record set.

    Some lists are too long or we want them split up for multiple staff to manage and having these results in different record sets helps with that.

  18. We are upgrading to 7.7 and have just decided to NOT turn on the new feature that suppresses non-blocking 'blocks' such as the 'patron has holds' popup block.

  19. If Simply Reports had a Hold History report, where you could enter a Bibliographic Record ID and then see the history of hold requests created for that bibliographic record -- it would be most helpful when trying to see why an item wasn't automatically renewed, or was blocked from renewing.

  20. Every time I create a record set, the Owner is defaulting to the first branch that I have the permission to create a record set for. It would be great to make the Owner to default to assigned or logged into branch.
