  1. : In its current configuration, a "display" shelf location can be used to indicate an item has been placed on display. However, changing this shelf location is a semi-permanent change and when the display comes down staff must change the location codes, either manually or through a record set, to the original location. Because displays are often very popular, this often results in items being checked out and returned. Without markings on the books that indicate they're on a temporary display, these items are often reshelved in their original location while their Polaris record indicates they're still on display, hindering…

  2. Currently, patrons receive a default email message when their hold is cancelled. It would be great for staff to have the ability to enter a reason or write a brief message letting the patron know why their hold was cancelled.

  3. From time to time, we have need to place all items on a record set on hold to call them in for a specific purpose. It would be great to have the ability to select all or some items within a record set and click a place hold button and then have the option to move the request for each of these items to the top of queue.

    Idea Value
This would make functions so much faster and easier. For example, right now, I need to place item level holds on a couple dozen checked out items to inspect them…

  4. It would be great to have an option to go back and view recent search history or search results in the find tool in Leap. I often close out of a search too soon and realize I need to go back for more information, or realize that I actually had the results I needed two searches ago.
Being able to quickly view recent search results rather than constructing the whole search again would save a lot of time.

  5. I often get requests to have a pop-up for staff when last copy, or more especially a last copy with a hold, gets put into a status like withdrawn, missing, etc. It could provide a big head's up to selectors so they could preemptively tackle.

    Idea Value
This would provide better customer service. Last copies with holds that were being discarded, etc. could be more immediately addressed to order replacement, contact patron, or submit to ILL.

  6. When working with a list of bibs, items or patrons, ability use ctrl and shift keys to select a chunk of sorted records (without having to checkmark each item) to add them to a record set. If other web tools like gmail can do this for email deletions, it seems we could do this with LEAP too.

    Idea Value
    Saves time.

  7. It would be very useful for patron notes to automatically include date and time - this would allow us to track "updates" to progressive situations with patrons that multiple staff are addressing.

  8. Currently printing receipts from the Leap web app is unideal, requiring either significant manual intervention from the user or extensive browser tweaks to get it operable. A background desktop client (similar to JSPrintManager) could handle the printing far better than the browser does natively.

  9. In the same way that you can bulk select multiple non-sequential emails in web email services and right click to take action, Leap should allow users more flexibility to bulk select records to be added to a record set. This is something that is useful in the windows staff client and should be available in the web Leap interface. Also, please add a Load All option at the top of Leap retrieval/record sets to take place of the karate chop, instead of having to scroll to the bottom of the results to access the Load More button.

    Idea Value

  10. Many of the keyboard shortcuts that are in the Polaris client are not found in Leap. This is harder for people with difficulties switching between the keyboard and mouse. We have a user who would love to have access to these keyboard shortcuts in leap that, if turned on or added, would make Leap linking much more intuitive and ergonomic.

    The staff member said:

    • Ctrl-S would be fantastic
    • A shortcut to simply close a record, as exists in the form of Alt-F4 in Polaris.

    Those are the big ones.

Any others that can be turned on or created specifically for…

  11. While there are many advantages to way that Polaris calculates TOMs, there are currently some significant limitations for differentiating between formats. 4K BluRays, Playaways/Yotos, and video game systems are all very difficult to distinguish from one another when using only the MARC fixed fields. Additionally, many libraries are expanding their collections with Libraries of Things that are usually coded as "Kit" or "Three Dimensional Object" rather than describing what it actually is. These bib TOMS are also now featured prominently in Vega Discover's rollups.

Over on the Sierra side, the options for bibliographic format can be customized. If a library…

  12. To have the ability to choose what columns are used in record sets. This would be useful for daily inventory of items that we would need to know the due dates or other values. Currently, record sets are locked into a standard set of columns, some of which, most of us have no use for.

    Idea Value
This would be a major time saver when analyzing inventory and statistics.

  13. Currently, when you create a report in Simply Reports and save it for future use, the saved report will allow you to generate a PDF or a spreadsheet file, but will not allow you to request that a record set be created. You can only create a record set by recreating the report from scratch in the Simply Reports interface. We have reports that we run monthly to catch items that are newly assigned to LOST, MISSING, and DAMAGED statuses, and to get a record set that I can work with, I have to run each report from scratch, manually.…

  14. SimplyReports offers only one format when downloading the results of a report, and that is a questionably formatted xls file that always throws a warning when opening in Microsoft Excel. Microsoft left the xls format behind almost 15 years ago when they launched the xlsx format in Excel 2007. My idea is not only to update the downloadable report format to xlsx, but add reporting formats now common in data handling and processing:Update xls and replace it with xlsxAdd export to OpenDocument Spreadsheet (.ods)Add export to CSVAdd export to JSONAdd export to PDF

Additionally, it'd be an excellent update to…

  15. We have different time frames for different patron codes. For example a regular adult or child card is two years. We have others, such as a visitor card that is three months and several others. We would like the system to automatically adjust the expiration date to a pre-determined time frame set for each code.

    Idea Value
Fewer mistakes made by staff. They often forget to adjust the expiration date for patron codes that vary from our default. Like many things, it's a 'training issue' and we try our best but with the size and turnover mistakes are made. This…

  16. When searching in Leap, any applied filters are automatically discarded when the search box is closed. It would be beneficial to have the option to make filters stick from search to search. A good example is in the case of consortia - it would be extremely helpful if the patron assigned library filter would stick so staff would always begin an initial search for patrons with their library filter in place.

    Idea Value
Time savings would be gained if staff did not have to select a specific filter each time a search was conducted - such as selecting the patron…

  17. We'd like to have a way to place multiple holds at once. The existing multiple holds option doesn't quite do that as it still requires re-entering the title and selecting it for each copy needed while in the holds area of an account. For a book club, for example, it would be much faster and easier to select a title to hold and have a way to say we want 15 copies from this bib record, rather than have to select it title 15 times.

  18. The "Recent" tab in the Leap Workform Tracker lists recently-accessed patron, item, and bibliographic records. Now that additional record types are available in Leap, it would be helpful to have additional record types listed in the "Recent" tab, including but not limited to:InvoicesPurchase OrdersRecord Sets

    Idea Value
The "Recent" tab in the workform tracker is a helpful tool that allows staff to easily reopen records that have been recently closed. Adding additional record types to the recent tab would be helpful for all staff, especially technical services staff that are transitioning to Leap.

  19. For collection development purposes, we need to know how popular an item is. Right now, renewals from the same patron counts as a circ. It would help to have renewals counted separately so that we can have an accurate circulation stat. For example, our YA Manga (33090005890258) shows that lifetime circulation is 5 but it's actually 2 patron checkouts with 3 renewals. This number makes it seem that this manga is more popular than it is. New items are easier to count right now but as time passes, looking at the history will become more time consuming.

    Idea Value
    Time…

  20. In LEAP, please add the ability for a user to create a bibliographic record set from a file of ISBNs or Control Numbers..

    Idea Value
LEAP can create item record sets using an 'add from file' option that uploads item records by barcode - and LEAP can create a patron record set by uploading a file of Patron IDs.

We would like to have a similar function that allows us to create a bibliographic record set by uploading a file of ISBNs or Control Numbers.
