  1. As Polaris currently exists (v7.3 at my library), User 1 wants to share a bibliographic record set with User 2 and User 3. In order to do this, they have to change the record set's owner from User 1 to Organization 1. But this allows all members of Organization 1 with the permissions "Cataloging Record Sets: Modify" and "Cataloging Record Sets: Delete/Undelete" to make changes to that record set. Let's say that at some point down the road, User 4 sees this bib record set owned by Organization 1 and thinks they're being helpful by updating or deleting it. They…

  2. It's great being able to bulk-add records to a record set, but it would also be helpful to be able to bulk-remove records from a record set based on either another record set, or an Excel file.

Today in larger record sets it can be a pain to remove a medium to large amount of records. Our staff may work with 10,000+ entry record sets, and need to remove records meeting certain criteria that isn't visible in the fields when viewing a record set. This idea would give a user the flexibility to fill a separate record set based on…

  3. Enhancement request to update the capabilities of Did You Mean? for search results in Polaris catalog. Requesting an audit of the spell check dictionary and a request for an option for a Spanish language dictionary. Revised 08/10/21

    Idea Value
This would allow for customers to better reach the results they are looking for regardless of spelling ability or language. This applies to most every search across the catalog.

  4. Adding a icon/button within the Patron Status "Items Out" view which would send an email to the email address on file for the patron which lists all items currently checked out and their due date.

    Idea Value
There is already a print icon/button on the Patron Status "Items Out" view which can be used to print the list of items out and their due date. Adding an email icon/button would allow patrons to receive this list easily via email when they come to the desk and ask staff for a list of the items checked out.

  5. Currently, outbound Telephony places a call to patrons that a hold is available almost instantaneously after the item has been checked in and moved to a Held status. For some of our larger libraries, the checked in material may not be available for pickup for 2-3 hours - but they have patrons who are coming to the desk expecting to be able to pick up their item right away because they received that instantaneous call. (sometimes the patrons are in the building, get the call, and simply walk downstairs to the hold shelves)

It would help avoid stress for staff…

  6. Add a "Missing" button to the action headers above the items in the Unclaimed tab of the picklist in Leap.

    Idea Value
When staff open the unclaimed list and pull items off the hold shelf, they have no direct way to handle items missing from the shelf. Rather than having to use a lengthy work around, it would be more efficient if staff could change the item circ status from within the Unclaimed tab.

Currently staff have to copy the barcode to check in the missing item (by logging in as the assigned branch - something they may not have…

  7. To be able to select multiply purchase order line segments and make a bulk change to a particular field, (eg. coll. code, fund code) Sometimes an error occurs in the import process and each line has to be populated manually. It would be amazing to be able to select an entire column and make the change.

  8. Currently, there is only one way to receive and invoice orders in Leap. This workflow consists of receiving the line item from the purchase order and copying it to the invoice. In the Client, staff have the option to use a more efficient process called Rapid Receipt. Rapid Receipt allows line items to be received and copied to the invoice at the same time. In our consortia, a significant amount of libraries use Rapid Receipt. They are concerned that it has not been added to Leap yet. Since Rapid Receipt is available in the Client, the same functionality should be…

  9. Create a way to convert an Item specific (not Volume specific) hold request to a First Available request. To often staff create a hold for a patron from the Item Find Tool and create the request for that specific item which usually delays the fulfillment of that request.

  10. In the Cataloging module of Polaris, we are able to Bulk Change bibliographic records to change the record status from Provisional to Final ('Save provisional records as final'). During imports, this allows us to push records into the system if there are known duplicates, MARC errors, etc.

It would be great to have the same functionality for Item Records: to be able to save hundreds of Provisional records as Final instead of having to click on each one and manually save them as Final.

    Idea Value
This idea would directly benefit the cataloging staff in the amount of time we…

  11. Once you create a record set, it's very annoying to try and break it into smaller record sets (ESPECIALLY in Leap). Given that bulk changes are supposed to be limited to 10k items or less (according to my site manager), it would be really helpful if there was a way to break up a record set into smaller ones. Ideally I could pick to split the record set in half or in multiple sets of maximum X records.

    Idea Value
Libraries needing to manage their collection can bring their system to a halt if they make too big a change…

  12. The Polaris Leap login screen consists of two text fields, a button, and a low resolution PNG floating upon an ocean of #CCCCCC. It is, in a word, boring. There are no easy customization options offered that allow a library to give it the look and feel that they want, save for one option that will change the colour of the menu bar. Now, granted, if you have a staff member with some web coding knowledge, they can modify the Leap CSS and replace some images to give things a spruce up. Five lines of code and a fresh image…

  13. Picklist is great - unless you are a large location that needs to distribute the list among several staff and do not have devices for everyone. Currently in staff client, we can sort multiple columns - example, by Collection then by call number within collection, then hide unwanted columns, print and distribute pages among multiple staff. You can only sort 1x in Leap and then there is a lot of white space, etc. which results in paper waste. It would be great to have the ability to fine sort, hide columns and headers when printing Picklist. Without that, staff will…

  14. Imagine the possibilities if we could automate the process of bulk changes to bib records as part of an import profile.

Other ILS systems offer robust manipulation of bib records upon import, but this is missing from Polaris.

By allowing bib bulk changes to be stored in templates, just like item bulk changes, we can streamline the process and save valuable time. Imagine having a set of predefined steps for importing bibs from specific sources or of certain record types. It would ensure consistency and accuracy, eliminating manual effort.

    1. Allow bib bulk changes to be stored in templates like item…

  15. It could help patrons with extensive reading histories (e.g. patrons using outreach services for retirement homes etc.) improve their discovery journey when they are logged in, if items from their reading history were somehow denoted in search results as, for example, "already borrowed" or "borrowed in the past".

  16. We'd like to have Leap's quick search box do a keyword search instead of phrase, or at least have that be an optional setting. Currently searching something like 'help stockett' (without quotes) looks for that as a phrase, so we don't get any hits. Other searches might bring up random bibs that do have that phrase, but not everything that would be found with keyword. The PAC's quick search uses keyword. I'm not sure why it would be helpful for the default quick search in Leap to do something different. It seems like most staff would expect a simple keyword…

  17. The edition statement should be added to the results list in the find tool and the duplicate detection results. The edition statement is already visible to patrons in the brief display of the records in the results list in the PowerPAC. When staff need to search by title or deduplicate records, they need to look at each record to identify the record for the correct edition. If the edition statement were added to the table that displays the results, they could identify the correct records in a more efficient manner.

  18. When sorting by a column, then choosing an item and hitting located, it resets the sort back to the default.

This is not ideal at our larger locations who may be pulling dozens of items at a time.

  19. We have a number of custom reports in the Polaris Staff Client that need to be accessible to our Circulation Staff in Leap. Ideally all Polaris canned reports should also be available to all staff in Leap. One custom report we use is for patrons who don't have an email address. Their notification option is set to mailing address. However, if they have a hold we call them instead of sending the hold notice by mail. The custom report is a quick way to find the patrons that we need to call. Staff have to have access to both Polaris…

Just to set expectations, our strategy at this time is for users to access reports through the SSRS portal. As Eleanor mentioned in her comment, we are adding customizable menu options to Leap in 7.5 with the intent that they be used to link users to the reporting interface.

  20. Our Cataloging staff frequently have to place item-level holds on multiple items from the same bib record when making updates to the collection. Currently in Leap, these holds display in the patron's account with only the title, format, and call number. From this information it is impossible to tell which specific items have been placed on hold. Including the barcode and the assigned branch of the item would make it easier to tell different item-level holds apart when the items all have the same title.
