Not-Supplied status for Holds - change back to on hold if item becomes avaliable
When an item hold has the status of Not-Supplied, if this item then becomes available eg if a a lost item is returned, the not-supplied status doesn't automatically retrigger the hold.
Currently you have to go in and manually reactive the hold.50 votes -
Fix the Leap Bibliographic Find Tool Search to use Initial Articles like the Polaris Client
Currently in Leap there is no equivalent Bibliographic Title search to the "Exact match (implicitly truncated)" in the Polaris Client. The Leap search "Bibliographic>BasicSearch>Title>Exact ()" doesn't utilize the Initial Articles entries in the Bib record so any title search with a "The" or "A" or "An" in the title are not returned in the search results. This has caused a push back to adoption since the very real perception is that Leap has inferior search capabilities. I'm not sure why the the "Bib Exact ()" search requires staff to strip out the A, An & The initial article…

Full support for emoji in Polaris Label Manager
Many libraries like to call attention to their genre fiction through the use of spine label stickers and icons. For instance, science fiction items may feature an image of a grey alien, mysteries have a magnifying glass or a skull and crossbones, and westerns use a cowboy or a horse or something similar. The thing is, there's no reason a library couldn't print the icons on the spine labels themselves using emoji.
👽 = Science Fiction
🐴 = Western
💀 = Mystery
🦄 = Fantasy
🏰 = Historical Fiction
And so on. However, the Polaris Label Manager barely supports any…

Allow Administration to manage personal (owner) record sets.
Record sets that are owned by staff remain in the system forever if those owners don't clean them up. We would like Administrators to have co-ownership of those sets.
Idea Value
Administrators can maintain and clean up orphaned record sets.48 votes -
Always allow item-level holds in PAC
It would be incredibly useful for our patrons if we could still allow item-level holds from the PAC for those items which are not serials or multi-part sets. We want to limit holds for serials and multi-parts using the current functionality in Polaris because it will serve our patrons better, but other functionality should not be taken away in order to do so.
Currently, in the Requests parameters, unless the box is checked for 'Allow item requests from PAC,' item-level holds cannot be placed on all items. If 'Limit item requests to first available copy' is checked, and any of…

Include item barcodes on billing notices
Currently item barcodes are not included on the billing notices. We double check the shelves for billed items prior to mailing the bill to the patron. Often we have multiple copies of the item. To ensure that the bill is accurate and the items are truly missing, we have to take the other copies to the circulation desk and double check their status. This is time consuming, inefficient and occurs frequently. Item barcodes are include on the overdue notices. I would like to see them included on the billing notice too.
Idea Value
This would simplify the workflow, reduce staff…45 votes -
Improve Student/Patron Import
The Problem
At best, the method and workflow used to bulk import patrons into Polaris (often referred to as student import) is archaic. The Polaris documentation for this process, Importing Student Records as Patron Records, is 19 pages long and seven of those pages are definitions and descriptions for the format of a pipe delimited file. This file contains 65 separate columns, all of which must be included in the file even if they contain no information. The documentation defines at least three columns that you should not populate… so why are they there? You can obtain a sample Excel…

Have the ability to use the ENTER key to close a check out in Leap
In Polaris staff have the ability to tap ENTER to close a check out. In Leap, staff must select COMPLETE with the mouse to close the transaction.
Idea Value
Polaris users have become acustomed to using ENTER to finish a check out so having to select COMPLETE is awkward and takes extra steps involving the mouse.42 votes -
Option to prevent same-day renewals
Optionally prevent renewals from going through the same day an item is checked out (applied to items with loan periods of more than 1 day).
Idea Value
Increasingly libraries are using self-checkouts and RFID circulation stations. Both patrons and staff members can unintentionally rescan items that have just been checked out, using up one or more renewal, just by having the items too near the scanner pad. This would prevent accidents that use up available renewals and lead to confused patrons and staff!42 votes -
Show allowable renewals as zero if the item has a block or hold
Show that there are no available renewals on an item if the item is blocked or has a hold.
Idea Value
This will reduce the confusion that patrons have when checking their accounts for available renewals. It will show that the item is not renewable and must be brought back.42 votes -
Reserve in advance - Book Club Kits or Library of Things
Add an option based on material type that allows the customer to reserve an item for a certain time frame. For example, if the item type is book club kit, they can reserve a title in June for a meeting in October. For greater flexibility, we'd like to control how far in advance they can book the item based on material type. We'd be interested in using this for book club kits, laptops, and other types of kits that we have or might add.
Idea Value
As more libraries are adding non-traditional materials such as tools, cake pans, and sewing…42 votes -
Allow local cover art to display in the PAC
Allow a local cover image to override cover art provided by an enhanced content vendor, or to display when there is no image available from the vendor.
Idea Value
Not all enhanced content vendors allow the submission of local images. When a cover image is incorrect, it may take a while for it to be corrected, if it can be. (If a publisher reuses an ISBN, who knows what cover will display.) Also, sometimes the only way to keep incorrect cover art from displaying is to remove valid data from the bibliographic record. If the URL/URI of the desired image…

Patron Preferred Pronouns (Polaris)
We would like an optional field in the patron record for preferred pronouns. This field should be available at the top of all patron registration views near Last name, First name, Title etc. It should be available to display on the Patron Status and Check-out screens via System Administration under Parameters, Patron Services, Check-out: Optional patron data. We would also like to be able to display it on phone notices, but not mailers.
Idea Value
As our libraries strive to be more inclusive, we would like a way to record the patron's preference other than using a note field which…41 votes -
Add spine and serial label settings to Leap
Some library staff need to be able to alter the label margin and font size for longer call numbers, longer author names, and longer titles, as well as how the printer prints that day. Currently, staff using Leap need to go back and forth between the Client and Leap to do so. Adding the label settings that are only accessible in the Client to Leap will make it easier for staff to make the transition to Leap by allowing them to maintain their workflow for their current printers.

Select multiple branches more easily in LEAP find tool.
In the Find Tool, allow users to filter by a library organization's branches by selecting a library 'quick pick' option. This would eliminate the need for a system used by multiple libraries to click each branch associated with their organization.
Idea Value
In the Find Tool, in order to filter a search for an item with an assigned branch within our library organization, we are required to select the checkbox next to each branch from the drop-down menu. We have over 20 branches, which makes the filter cumbersome. We would like to be able to select all of our branches…40 votes -
Printing and Exporting Reading History in the Polaris
We have had several library members ask why there are not capable of printing their reading history from their account in Polaris. It would be great if there was a print button at the top of their reading history. Can this be be added?
Idea Value
Very helpful for the elderly. They prefer a hard copy and/or have to wait for a family member to visit to show them their reading history.39 votes -
Un-cancel a purchase order line item
The ability to un-cancel a cancelled Purchase Order Line Item. Sometimes an order cancelled by a vendor will arrive anyways, or one edition is cancelled then later substituted for another. In these cases, it would be preferable to un-cancel the original POLI than to create a new one, or start from scratch at the invoice stage. Un-cancelling the POLI would also allow us to maintain the connection between the POLI and the Invoice Line Item.
Idea Value
This would save time and confusion for acquisitions staff, and allow us to maintain the connections between PO, Invoice and Item.39 votesFUTURE POSSIBILITIES (IDEA LAB) · 5 comments · Acquisitions, Serials & Item/Issue/Inventory Management · Admin → -
Duplicate detection as separate action for bibs and authorities in Leap
In the client, duplicate detection for MARC records is triggered by (re)saving the record, but can also be triggered separately as an action under the Tools menu. In Leap, resaving the record is the only way to trigger the function. This means cataloguers have to do a fake edit in order to un-grey-out the save button and click past any other functions, such as MARC validation, before they can get to the matching record(s).
Having duplicate detection as a separate function (maybe under Actions or as a button in the MARC view) would save cataloguers time and extra clicking.

Add date added column to record set
When using a record set, it would be helpful if there was a column that shows when the item was added to the record set. We use record sets to create carousels that show new items on our PAC. The date added to record set would be helpful so we could remove the oldest things when refreshing our carousels.

Make 'non-blocking' circulation blocks optional
Many of the blocks that pop-up during transactions at the circulation desk are more informational than related to rules. Separating 'blocking blocks' (patron is over the fines threshold) from 'informational blocks' (patron has a hold available) and making the latter optional would help libraries improve accuracy and efficiency at the circulation desk.
Idea Value
Having unnecessary blocks popping up during circulation transactions takes staff and patron time and trains staff to click past blocks without reading them closely, making it more likely that important messages will be missed and ruled will be overridden. Giving libraries the option to include or…37 votes
