  1. The Jacksonville Public Library leverages the Polaris API to manage student records. Currently we have to take an extra step in the LEAP UI to set the communication preferences. We don't bill students or send their accounts to collections, so we have to do a bulk update of all the records with the UI after already touching every record with the API. This is cumbersome because there are over 100,000 student records that need to be updated. Most updates are smaller, but at the start of the school year we do a full refresh.

  2. I would like to be able to limit new items to be available only to a specific branch (Library at Home/ Outreach for example) but only for a specific time frame. We have this functionality for a library level, but not branch.

In System>Parameters>Notification>Notification Options>Overdue & Bill, I would like to see the "Include Claimed Items" broken out into individual notification options for Claims Returned, Claims Never Had, and Missing Part. As of now, if this option is selected, notices will go out for all or nothing regarding these claims. I would like to only send notices for Missing Part items and not the other two. My reasoning is I do not want to continue to send notices for items I consider "resolved" when a patron says they returned something or that they never had it. However, I do want to continue…

  5. We would like to request that transit slips print for INN-Reach items that have been borrowed by our patrons and need to be returned. When these items are checked in, no transit slips print for us to easily return them to the lending libraries. We came from Sierra, where this was standard. Adding the return transit receipt would streamline our workload back to what it was before migration as we won't have to look up these codes manually. It will also help staff recognize that the returned item is not ours and needs to go back to another library.

  6. In our consortium, materials owned by any of our member libraries are shared for circulation by the other libraries. Only some of our libraries use a collection agency. When patrons pay for replacement of lost or damaged items, and any associated collection agency charges, we want to get that money to the library that owned the item. Sometimes we also need to confirm to a patron what the collection agency charge is related to.

  7. The new patron import process will be a major improvement for handling student data, but it still requires significant data formatting before uploading through LEAP. It would be incredibly helpful if libraries could create their own templates to define how data is mapped to specific CSV columns, including logic for assigning patron codes or populating fields like UDFs. This kind of flexibility would greatly reduce the staff time needed to prepare files for import.

  8. In playing around with Weeding-type record sets, we have noted the following: using the action "add from Item Record set" yields, as its error report output, a list of item-level control numbers.

    If you "add from file", the error report output is item barcodes - a way of searching for items that comes a bit more intuitively to our desk staff.

    It would save us a couple processing steps to avoid importing from files, so we would love to use the "add from item record set" feature - however, the control number output for problem items (those that are outside…

  9. We recently began integrating Polaris with cloudLibrary in an effort to keep our collection more up-to-date and have patrons' Polaris accounts reflect their cloudLibrary borrowing. Unfortunately, our results have been inconsistent because while the Polaris/cloudLibrary connection works, there is not a fluid integration between Polaris, cloudLibrary, and BiblioCommons, where patrons are also able to check out cloudLibrary titles. We would like to see full integration between all three vendors so that transactions on any platform are properly communicated to the others.

We would like the notes icon on the patron Check Out – [patronID] - Normal – Polaris window to have the alert color change like you see on The Patron Status - [patronID] – General – Polaris window and other Patron record windows? We see that Leap has the color change of its Notes icon on its checkout page. Our landing window for opening a patron record is the Check Out – Normal – Polaris window and it would be helpful to have that notes icon change color like the other patron record windows.

  11. Our system does not currently have late fees on most of the collection. But for the collections we do, we have a max that we will charge in late fees for items returned on the same day per patron. It would be nice if we could set up for the system to automatically waive fees for overdue items that exceed that amount.

  12. In 7.7, we now have the option to do INN-Reach check in, which is phenomenal! It has sped up this process immensely, making for happier staff and patrons.

    However, the speed has brought with it some unexpected snags: The biggest at present being the color of the 'return uncirculated' toast as compared to normal INN-Reach processing.

Currently, the notices for Current Checked Out Items allows for daily or weekly scheduling, but it would be handy to have the ability to set this at a longer time frame such as monthly, quarterly or by semester as most of our materials check out for much longer periods of time (16 weeks or longer generally), and some users find the weekly reminders tedious.

    Either the option to set the automated notices to a longer time period, or the ability for patrons to choose a longer reminder period (opt in to weekly, monthly, etc notice) would be very helpful.

  16. Please add a checkbox to exclude Inn-Reach items on the picklist. Inhouse requests are searched separately and by different staff than those who handle Inn-Reach requests, and so it would be nice to have their lists only display inhouse requests. Thanks!

  17. I love Polaris/Leap 7.7's INN-Reach check-in screen for receiving resource sharing items. Thank you for the update!

    Please make it smart enough to handle returns to the owning library as well (or create a similar screen for returns), so staff doesn't have to do the cumbersome, branch-by-branch return process in Request Manager.

  18. It would be helpful to be able to create or update, via PAPI, patron registration records with the Title and Suffix fields populated. Currently, there is no way to ingest this information when using custom registration forms that utilize PAPI to create patron records.

  19. The Collection Agency Report currently includes a field for RtrndMaterial.

    Apparently whoever designed the report defined this field as "Value of material returned. (RetndMaterial)...The value is the sum of all replacement charges for lost or billed items that were originally charged by the reporting organization and that have been waived."

    In other words, if your staff waives replacement charges, that gets reported to the Collection Agency as returned material, even though no material was returned and the library has gained nothing. This paints an unrealistic picture of the results of your collection efforts and allows the collection agency to suggest…
