  1. When creating a new account in Leap, it would be helpful if when the date of birth was less than 18 years from the registration date AND a patron code for adult patrons was selected, that an alert would display prior to saving, as we see for missing DOBs or other fields.

    It should not be a hard block, as it is possible for someone under 18 to register as an adult, but the alert would catch attention to remind staff to confirm/correct during the registration process.

  2. Currently, a patron's current charges (for fines, etc.) can be listed on their emailed checkout receipts, but not on their printed checkout receipts. It would be very useful for patrons if the printed checkout receipts could also include this information.

  3. Currently, when a patron is placing a request for ILL via OCLC in the Polaris PAC, Polaris offers a "local item" to hold if the item is in the local Polaris database. Unfortunately, I have just learned from my Site Manager it is only checking title/author to suggest a match, not format. We have seen the PAC suggest a "local item" for different format (DVD when a Blu-Ray is requested; regular print when a large print is requested) in addition to different item entirely (a remake of a movie when the original is requested; a tv adaptation when a feature…

  4. Our library went fines free, but still charge patrons if they place a hold, but do not come in to pick it up. We don't want to charge them to place the hold, but do want to charge if we transit the item, make it available, but they don't come get it. In lieu of fines, this is a major revenue stream for us. We are migrating to Polaris and are surprised to learn it does not offer this functionality. Please consider adding this!

  5. Currently, when staff update their library's Dates Closed table for a single date in the future they are required to select/enter the same date in both the Dates Closed and the Until fields.

    While it is just a couple additional clicks, having the Until field auto-populate with the same date that staff have selected/entered in the Date Closed field would improve the end user experience when they are entering a number of single dates at once.

  6. It would be nice if we could separate the "holds ready for pick up" texts from the "renew" texts and be able to choose if you want one or the other or both. Customers would love to get a text for when their holds come in, but for some, the renewal texts are too much, and the pick up texts get lost in the volume. Then also, have the option to get renewals and/or pick up notices in their email.

  8. Current user experience shows a gap in the Authority Records search flow. After running an authority search in Leap and opening an individual record, users are unable to return to the original results list. The only available option is to close the record, which also closes the search, forcing users to re‑enter and re‑run the query. This creates unnecessary repetition and slows cataloging work.

  9. Our patrons would like the ability to filter their Saved Title Lists by "available now" and "owning library", similar to search results in the catalog. This would enable them to walk into any library, look at their reading list, and see what is on the shelf now at a glance. Checking each title for availability and branch is tedious and time consuming.

  10. The ability to schedule holds or checkouts in advance would be a valuable feature for both libraries and patrons. Many libraries offer a variety of items beyond traditional books, such as computers, StoryWalk kits, activity kits, technology kits, and other specialty collections, that patrons may need to access on a specific date or for a particular event.

  11. We would like to submit an enhancement request regarding the display of collection names in the system.

    Currently, the Cataloging module displays the collection name together with its abbreviation, while the Acquisitions module only shows the first part of the collection name in the dropdown list. This difference in display may cause confusion for staff when selecting or identifying the correct collection.

  13. On bib / item records, display the release date of titles when the title is not yet released. This will remind users to not make books available when they are received but not yet released. This info might not be in the typical metadata bundle but would be very useful to have.

  14. When staff use the quick search box during busy times, the results come up empty. Sometimes they know they have the items and will wait to try again, but other times they assume no one owns the title and end up creating a duplicate record.

    When searching is affected by network performance, Leap should be handling that exception and displaying an error to the user. Blank results are a result and it is confusing people.

  15. Add the ability to customize what fields are "copied" when clicking on the Copy button in a patron record. Or as an alternative, create custom patron templates that can be selected both when copying a record and creating a new record.

    For Example: Our Staff use the Copy function most often with registering multiple members in the same family. Rarely is the information in the Profile View the same (Name, Patron Code, Birth Date, etc.) and if staff aren't careful they could forget to change these fields - fields that are reflected in the various system tables.

If you have a search filter saved as a default search (such as assigned branch saved, for example), but temporarily remove it for a search, then open a bib/item record, then go back to the search results, LEAP will go back to your default search with the filter applied instead of the one you just did with the filter removed. This doesn't appear to happen the other way around.     This will be fixed with the Find Tool changes coming in Polaris 8.1, which make the primary Find Tool remain open as a workform when results are opened. (I just tested on our in-dev QA environment).


    The only exception would be if you opened a bunch of results, closed the Find Tool, and then tried to return to results from one of the previously opened results. This triggers a brand new search in the Find Tool, which is why the defaults are re-applied.

  17. There are times when Material Types and Circulation Statuses are not used by either the entire system or specific libraries. This can cause staff errors and general confusion when there are options available that are outside of the libraries workflow. We would love to see SA options that would be able to hide/suppress both Material Types and Circulation Statuses in the staff client/Leap.

  18. When scanning materials into a weeding-type record set, the system throws (broadly) two types of toasts - yellow and red. The yellow toasts very helpfully specify in what exact manner the given item does not match weeding criteria filters. However, the red toasts (excluding "Barcode is invalid" and the indication an item is already in a weeding record set) do not specify in what exact manner the given item falls outside the inclusion criteria.

We are removing overdue fines for our Children and Teen collections and wanted to enable auto-renew for the collection codes that are related to the Children and Teen collections, but realized auto-renew can only be enabled on an organizational level. It would be great if there was the ability to enable it on a collection level, especially for children's materials as, I'm sure we're all familiar, children are really bad at remembering to renew or return

  20. When checking out a stack of items via RFID pad, LEAP will only display the held item's patron's name and barcode. It would be helpful to have the item's title and/or barcode, so we may capture the hold without going through each item individually.
