Take free days into account when recording check-in date in item history
Hi there! We just had a situation with a patron where several items they returned in the book drop on 6/30 were checked in today 7/5, however they were back-dated to accommodate for the days the library was closed and prevent fees from accruing. But upon viewing the history in Leap for each of those items, the check-in date displays as 7/5 and does NOT show the 5 days back-date, which would've been 6/30. This is very confusing and misleading, as our patron spoke to the owning library about the items and the owning library said 'New Milford checked those items in today, not on 6/30" therefore leading the patron to believe we had not accounted for the days we were closed. The concern here is that Leap does not display the back-day date as the check-in date in the item record's history. Would it be possible for that feature to be added in the future, thus discrepancies like these? We also tested it with a staff member's card after these events unfolded by checking out an item to their card and then checking it back in, back-dating it 5 days, and it still showed it was checked in 7/5, not 6/30. Thank you.

I can understand why there was confusion here but we would prefer that any "adjusting" of the recorded check-in date be an option, not forced. We prefer the check-in date to be recorded as the actual date the check-in happened - regardless of any backdating. We use the check-in date to report on staff activity and to determine staffing levels.
