  1. Once the lending library checks in an item and declares it shipped, there is no way to substitute a different item. If the lending library discovers that the original item is too damaged to circulate, they end up deciding not to ship the item, which cancels the request for the patron at the borrowing library.

  2. If the lending library sent a shipped message (API 201) but decides not to ship the item, the following message appears:

This INN-Reach item has already been checked in and declared shipped. Do you still want to ship this item?

If the lending library selects "No," the system sends a Final Item Check In (API 300) message to the borrowing library. This cancels the request for the patron at the borrowing library, even if other libraries have available copies of the item. Rather than canceling the request, treat it as having been denied by the original supplier and reassign it…

  3. Please enter the supplying library agency code into INN-Reach request notes, rather than the agency code for the library initially selected to fill the request. It is more useful to have information about the supplying library in the request. If the request notes were updated once a library had actually sent the item, the requesting library would be better able to contact the library if there were any issues with transit, etc.

It would also be helpful to have the supplying library's agency code in a notes field on the temporary item record that is created, so staff doesn't have…

  4. Please update the INN-Reach fulfillments report website. The interface looks like it was designed in the mid-90s, the "user spec" feature doesn't work, and the text download isn't formatted to easily import into Excel.

  5. For our INN-Reach system, the most important information on the INN-Reach pickup slip is the destination (courier) code, which is buried in small letters near the bottom of the slip. Make the slip editable, so each system can prioritize information that is important for processing. For example, we would like to place the courier code at the top of the slip in large, bold type.

  6. It would be helpful to be able to view INNReach Cancelled Holds just like we can view local holds that are cancelled.

When patrons ask why they did not receive an item requested through INNReach, we are unable to give them an accurate answer. Was it because the owning library wasn't able to fill the request or they never picked up the item and it was cleared from the holdshelf, for example. This enhancement would enable us to provide better customer service.

  7. Import the item cost when creating a temporary INN-Reach item record so patrons of the borrowing library can be charged an accurate replacement charge for items that they lose or damage.

  8. Currently the holds and check outs limits set for the Library includes Link+ and ILL items. These items are more expensive to replace and to ship and we would like the system to limit separately how many holds and checkouts a patron can have of library items, Link+ items and ILL items.

  9. Add the option to print the View Detail popup box in INN-Reach reports. For our shared Sierra system with 40 member libraries, the only report that isn't a systemwide report is Institutional Overdues so when the Too Long reports are run, users get all of the qualifying items for all 40 of our members because they do not honor Locations Served. The print option in the toolbar will print the entire list when only one or two of those items is pertinent to that location. We train our library staff to right click on those items and View Detail. The…

  10. Currently, items on records that have local bib-level holds show as "available" rather than having a hold status of "1 HOLD" or "5 HOLDS" in the INN-Reach OPAC. Patrons are not aware that there is a local bib-level hold since that only shows in the item's local OPAC.

When a patron tries placing a request in the INN-Reach OPAC on an 'available' item with a local bib-level hold, they are blocked from requesting. This is confusing to patrons since they see the item as "available" and do not understand why they can't place a hold. Items with local item-level holds…
