  1. It would be helpful if staff could print search results directly when using Leap. Currently, staff must first create a record set and then print the record set, which adds unnecessary steps and reduces efficiency.

    Patrons frequently request printed lists of titles by a specific author or within a particular subject area. Allowing staff to print search results directly from the results screen would streamline this process and improve service efficiency.

  2. Polaris continues to add more tab options in Leap patron records (most recently for the Dated Notes), but the newest features frequently end up getting hidden in the More menu.

    It would be really nice if each staff member had the ability to reorder the tabs in their patron record view, so they can ensure their most used tabs remain visible even if they are zoomed in or using a smaller screen.

    For instance, many of our libraries do not use the Reader Services tab. For those libraries, it would be wonderful to have the option to move the Reader…

  3. The ability to schedule holds or checkouts in advance would be a valuable feature for both libraries and patrons. Many libraries offer a variety of items beyond traditional books, such as computers, StoryWalk kits, activity kits, technology kits, and other specialty collections, that patrons may need to access on a specific date or for a particular event.

    Allowing patrons or staff to schedule a hold or checkout for a designated day would help ensure that high-demand or event-based materials are available exactly when needed.   4. Product Area: LEAP – Hold Request Screen

    Description:
    On the Hold Request screen, the “Satisfied By” tab displays a list of item barcodes and branches that could satisfy a hold. Currently, this list cannot be sorted or filtered, unlike many other list views in LEAP.

    When a title has a large number of copies, the list becomes difficult to review and troubleshoot. Staff must manually scan through all rows to determine which items are Held, Out, or otherwise unavailable, and to identify where those items are located.

  5. Our library has a program where we supply community members with books to read to classrooms. All readers receive the same set of 4-6 titles. While Polaris' function of placing everyone in a record set on hold for the same title helps, it would be great if, when the find tool pops up upon clicking Place Multiple Holds, you could change the database from Bibliographic to Record Set to simultaneously place all the customers in the patron record set on hold for all the titles in the bib record set.

  6. When staff use the quick search box during busy times, the results come up empty. Sometimes they know they have the items and will wait to try again, but other times they assume no one owns the title and end up creating a duplicate record.

    When searching is affected by network performance, Leap should be handling that exception and displaying an error to the user. Blank results are a result and it is confusing people.

  7. Add the ability to customize what fields are "copied" when clicking on the Copy button in a patron record. Or as an alternative, create custom patron templates that can be selected both when copying a record and creating a new record.

    For Example: Our Staff use the Copy function most often with registering multiple members in the same family. Rarely is the information in the Profile View the same (Name, Patron Code, Birth Date, etc.) and if staff aren't careful they could forget to change these fields - fields that are reflected in the various system tables.

  8. When a hold request is placed, Polaris performs an eligibility evaluation only once—at the moment when the request is first placed. Polaris does not re-evaluate eligibility later. So if Polaris is configured to use hold trapping preferences that prefers "my patron" but some temporary circumstance prevents the assigned library's item from filling a hold for the library's patron, the hold must now be filled by a different library. This can be mitigated if staff notice the problem and delete and replace the hold, but this is a lot of extra overhead and in all likelihood the problem will go unnoticed.…

  9. We would like the ability to exclude holds from outreach patrons from our picklist, since the outreach module has its own picklist. In addition, having the picklist to show the patron's name would be a great feature.

  10. Add support for Leap direct print using QZ tray to Leap offline. That way libraries don't have to figure out something special when they are in offline mode which is already a stressful time period for them.

  11. Allowing staff to select different sounds when checking items in and out would be a great benefit. For example, when checking an item in and there is a hold, a different sound would help alert the staff, or when a patron's library card is scanned for checkout, a custom-selected warning sound would play. At busy times, it is easy to just go with flow because all the sounds are the same.

  12. When merging patron records, the system currently appends merge details to the Non-Blocking Notes section. However, with the introduction of Dated Notes and the ability to hide Non-Blocking Notes, this information can be lost depending on system settings.
    We would like to see one of the following options implemented:

    • Allow administrators to choose where the system writes merge notes.

    • Have the system automatically write merge notes to both note types (Non-Blocking and Dated Notes).

Staff client allows you to delete a record and record sets from a set of search results, however, Leap requires clicking into each record, then clicking Actions and then clicking delete (or putting them all in a record set). Right now I'm cleaning up some old record sets. If I were doing this in the client, I have the ability to select multiple record sets within my results list and then right click to delete them in bulk. This would be a game changer in Leap.

  15. Since moving to Vega Discover, we are finding that we are having some issues there with holds queues due to the rolled up records (I've posted an idea over there too), but it's also exacerbated by the way records show in Leap.

    Ultimately, it would be great if bibs rolled up in Leap in a similar way to Discover. Not the different formats per say, but if there is a softcover, hardcover, deluxe, and reissue of a book, it would be nice to be able to see those all together to determine circ stats for them in a combined view,…

    I want to note that we may need to split this into several smaller requests, but we can keep this open until we have a better sense of how to best to break it down.


    The BIBFRAME-based model in Vega natively handles some of this grouping. It's not really feasible for us to create BIBFRAME-based groups in Polaris right now, but some of the problems mentioned here we might be able to solve. For example, Vega Reports might offer us an opportunity to provide grouped bib stats by combining stats for MARC bibs based on Vega roll-ups.

  16. We would like the ability to block renewals for a few days after checkout (or longer). Right now, we're seeing a lot of accidental renewals of items at checkout due to an item being too near an RFID pad or someone double scanning a checkout because they aren't sure if it scanned. In a previous system, we were able to block renewals by a couple days, so this didn't happen.

  17. The Circ Date in the item record workform (Circulation tab) is confusing. When an item is currently checked out, the circ date shows the date of the current checkout rather than the previous patron’s checkout date. This is confusing because it appears under “Last Use,” alongside the last borrower and branch information (see attached photo). It would be clearer if this field were labeled more explicitly or moved to a different area, perhaps below the Current Borrower (see attached mock-up).

  18. We would like the ability to set a date parameter to auto delete dated notes. Our retention policy is to not keep any notes on a patron older than 5 years. Currently our staff need to manually look through all patrons with notes and delete the old ones. Now with dated notes we would like it to do this process for us possibly with an overnight process.

    Bonus if it can also avoid dated notes that might be flagged in a way to not delete.

  19. We would like to set a dated note to auto float to the top. In the old notes we always put important notes on top so that it catches a staff members eyes quicker than reading through all the notes. We would also like to flag it in a way that indicates it shouldn't be deleted.

    Examples:
    We note accounts to indicate someone is a current employee or former employee with staff privileges.

    We note to not waive fines on patrons that we have had a lot of issues with. No one needs to read through all of their notes…

  20. We would like an alert to let us know when a patron has a dated note similar to the old Notes section. Even if it could flag the same NOTES word.

    Trying to transition to using dated notes only but we need our circ staff to be aware there are notes to view rather than them going to that section for every patron to see if there are any.
