  1. When we first go to the Outreach Services Manager, we see the full list of patrons for all delivery routes. We have the option to select a single delivery route and its associated patrons; however, there does not seem to be a way to return to the full list. Our current only option is to close the OSM and start again.

    It would be useful to have a "none" option at the top of the list, or to have the ability to deselect an item (without having to select another item).

  2. It would be great if there was a way to at least see which library an accidentally cancelled INN-Reach item was going out to. Occasionally, staff inadvertently click No to keeping an INN-Reach customer on hold for an item instead of clicking Yes. This happened today during request list clean up away from the physical item. We'd like to contact the requesting library so they can replace the hold for their customer but, with the request completely gone,we cannot access that info.   3. I would like to see a history of all holds on a bib record kept with the date of activation, not just those that were cancelled. I use this information to adjust how many copies of popular authors to pre-buy by looking at how many holds were placed on an author's previous released title(s) prior to release date.

  4. We have a Bookmobile service that is setup as it's own branch as well as a holds pickup location. With the limited capacity of this "pickup location", we are trying to restrict the material type loan limit block by location instead of by branch association.

    It would help to have some sort of Policy Table that does Material Type Loan Limit by Branch Pickup Location.

  5. It would be handy to be able to re-arrange records listed in the Workform Tracker. Sometimes I'm using a few records for some activity, and it can be confusing to keep track of them (especially since hold queues, hold records, items and bibs can have the same name, even if the icons used are different). The ability to change their order would allow some flexibility, such as allowing a user to place a hold record with the patron record they "belong" with.

In System>Parameters>Notification>Notification Options>Overdue & Bill, I would like to see the "Include Claimed Items" broken out into individual notification options for Claims Returned, Claims Never Had, and Missing Part. As of now, if this option is selected, notices will go out for all or nothing regarding these claims. I would like to only send notices for Missing Part items and not the other two. My reasoning is I do not want to continue to send notices for items I consider "resolved" when a patron says they returned something or that they never had it. However, I do want to continue…

  7. We use ChargeBalance, StatisticalClassID and BirthDate with 3rd party vendors to verify if our patrons are eligible to use licensed resources. Currently if I have a 3rd party vendor use PAPI to auth our patrons I would have to have them use PatronBasicDataGet to access this data which also returns personal information I do not want them to have access too. If ChargeBalance, StatisticalClassID and BirthDate were added to PatronValidate then the 3rg party vendors would not have unnecessary access to the full patron record.   9. In our system we have different Patron Codes for different ages. This allows us to differentiate services in the library to patrons of different ages. Occasionally, during the registration process (we exclusively use Leap) staff will forget to assign the correct Patron Code based on the new patron's age. If the system was able to auto-assign Patron Codes based on the inputted Birthdate, it would greatly reduce human error.

  10. Most of our libraries have changed their expiration date to 2 years. For new patrons this is fine, but for most existing patrons, their expiration date will still expire within the original 1 year expiration period. It would be helpful to be able to bulk update patron's expiration date, for a particular branch to a relative date. For example, 2 years from the date of registration.

  11. We would like the ability to print an item's barcode while in Leap. We have items that either require multiple barcodes for processing or items that have lost their barcode and it would be nice to print these directly from Leap to the printer of our choice.

    Currently staff need to grab the barcode from Leap and then open a different software to print the barcode label.

    This idea would also be nice if we can expand to a patron's barcode. Patrons come in and don't have their card for that visit but need it to access the computer. Rather…

  12. We use both the barcode field and username field interchangeably for patron access at our express checkout units. Currently, the unit only recognizes barcodes when they are scanned from the barcode field. We need the system to also recognize and process barcodes stored in the username field when scanned.
    For example, our school students have their student IDs stored as their primary barcode in Polaris, with their former library barcodes stored in the username field.   13. We’ve long benefited from Sierra’s well-supported EDI claims functionality, which has enabled seamless communication and efficient claims processing with our library partners. However, we’ve observed that Polaris currently lacks equivalent support for sending claims via EDI in the same format.

    Can you please port over the EDI Claiming Format From Sierra & Millennium to Polaris? This would make it easier for libraries migrating to Polaris from these products.

  14. When changing settings, it is critical to make sure you're changing them in the right place.

    The /PolarisAdmin should also pick up the color coding and client alerts. Currently, the /PolarisAdmin does NOT pickup the client color changes or wording, which means you need to do extra work to make sure you are changing the settings in the proper system.

  15. When our library transitioned from Sierra to Polaris, our Sierra serial check-in cards could not be transitioned. We have several serials that go back decades. In order to make the "Library Has" field display correctly in Vega, I currently create a publication pattern that begins with the earliest issue. I can then either extrapolate check-in boxes and check in every single back issue (which is a huge pain in Leap, because issues can only be checked in one at a time), or I can skip to the most recent issue received after the transition.   16. In playing around with Weeding-type record sets, we have noted the following: using the action "add from Item Record set" yields, as its error report output, a list of item-level control numbers.

    If you "add from file", the error report output is item barcodes - a way of searching for items that comes a bit more intuitively to our desk staff.

  17. We recently began integrating Polaris with cloudLibrary in an effort to keep our collection more up-to-date and have patrons' Polaris accounts reflect their cloudLibrary borrowing. Unfortunately, our results have been inconsistent because while the Polaris/cloudLibrary connection works, there is not a fluid integration between Polaris, cloudLibrary, and BiblioCommons, where patrons are also able to check out cloudLibrary titles. We would like to see full integration between all three vendors so that transactions on any platform are properly communicated to the others.

When a serial holdings record includes a pattern for a completely irregular issue, and the only chronology date on the issue is the year, the chronology day and month chosen when the publication pattern was set up is used for all following issues checked in using that pattern. The ability to manually adjust the chronology date would be very helpful, and would ensure that issues display in the correct order.

  20. Our Access Services staff use the Reader Services tab and the Note field to list patron details to assist with readers advisory for elderly and homebound patrons.

    They use the Preferences options to some degree, but have noticed a character limit in the Note field, which requires them to use abbreviations to fit their details. They asked: "Is there a way for Polaris to increase the character limit of the Note field in the reader services tab? Is there a way to increase the viewable space as well?"
