  1. In item records, the shelf location drop-down menu only lists the shelf locations for the assigned branch or owning branch. However, the shelf location drop-down menu in the item bulk change work form lists the shelf locations for all libraries in the consortium. Many of these shelf locations are similar. It can make it easy to choose the wrong one by mistake. Here are some examples:

    “Graphic Novel” vs. “Graphic Novels”
“Adult New DVD / Blu-ray” (with spaces) vs. “Adult New DVD/Blu-ray” (no spaces) vs. “Adult New DVDs/Blu-Rays.”

The item bulk change workform should be updated so that the shelf…

  2. We would like Polaris to transition items with a Circulation Status of Claim Returned and Claim Never Had to Withdrawn after a specified number of days. We envision this working like Lost Item Transition and the Missing Item Transition.

Adding this feature would allow a library to automatically remove items from patron view and allow for a more streamline process for deleting item records.

  3. Currently, a library may limit an item to be holdable for pickup at a single branch location. This setting allows the item to be limited to pick up at the item's assigned branch only. While this feature may work for single-branch libraries, it does not function in a practical way for multi-branch libraries. Expanding this feature to have a library-level option would increase the usability of this setting.

Example 1: Library A has 3 branches. They want to make their mobile hotspots holdable for pickup at any of their 3 branches. They do not want their hotspots to be placed…

  4. In the Client, there are undo and redo buttons. The undo button is particularly useful when someone has made a mistake. It quickly allows staff to correct the mistake by pressing a single button. When training technical services staff to use Leap, this button is clearly missed. Having this button will make the transition to Leap easier. Questions and comments about the lack of the undo button are common during training.

  5. Library staff frequently place holds that can’t be filled on the records for e-books from non-integrated vendors like Hoopla. Canceling these holds takes time. Since we still need to allow holds for the integrated vendors, we can’t change the material type to unholdable in system administration. Adding the ability to block holds by resource group or vendor account would solve the problem.

  6. The ability to copy existing records makes record creation more efficient. In the Client, staff have the ability to copy an existing supplier record to create another one with similar information. This happens when staff have multiple supplier records for the same vendor because they have separate account numbers. A copy button is not in the supplier record workform in Leap yet. It should be added to the actions drop-down menu of the supplier record like it is in other record types. This will allow staff to feel like the transition to Leap will be easier since it is a…

  7. Leap should force logout when browser/browser tab is closed. Forcing a logout at browser/browser tab close would ensure that any open editable records are closed out as well.

  9. In the Polaris client the bibliographic keyword index does not include or link to terms found in the cross reference fields (4XX & 5XX) of authority records, essentially making these references useless during a keyword search. These additional terms within authority records should be indexed in the bib record index for better, accurate search results.

The only way to access "SEE" references (4XX) during a bibliographic search is to choose a specific index (search by Author, for example) and change "type" to "Browse" rather than keyword, phrase, or exact match search.

For example, the actor Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor's name authority heading…

  10. Now that we have the capability to do ad hoc bulk changes to item records from the bibliographic record in Polaris 7.6, we also need the ability to delete item records in bulk. The workflow in the Client includes the ability to select multiple item records ad-hoc, right click on them, and press delete (or undelete). Delete and undelete buttons should be added next to the Bulk Change button on the Local Items and All Items tabs of the bibliographic workform in Leap. An alternate option could be to add a delete option to the bulk change.

  11. There should be two statuses to easily identify lost and paid vs. lost and not paid billed materials. This would help make running reports much easier and help identify the status of lost items.

  12. Right now, automatic renewals happen 3 days before the due date. If the item someone has out is supposed to fill a hold for someone else then it never automatically renews even if another item ends up filling that hold. There should be a schedule for automatic renewals to occur 3 days, 2 days, 1 day, before the item is due and the day the item is due so there are multiple opportunities for that item to automatically renew in the event that a hold gets filled by another library and that item is now eligible for renewal again. It's…

  13. Details on items going in-transit, enroute, and/or transferred are not kept within the Polaris Transactions database. Instead, the data is only kept within the Polaris database. This means if an item is deleted, then statistics on it going in-transit/transferred/enroute are lost. The enhancement request here would be to include that information into the Polaris Transactions database.

This could also serve as a generic enhancement request for increased reporting abilities within Simply Reports. It seems there are a lot of things our libraries would like reports on that are not possible to create within Simply Reports. It almost always involves historical…

  15. We would like to see a new format of "Graphic Novel" which could be used as a limiter in the PAC and in Leap. It could use the fixed fields in the MARC record when the 008 is for books with a 6 in "Nature of contents" (positions 24-27). This would help staff and patrons.

  16. In Leap Serials, the ability to select multiple issues and then click check in is needed for large libraries to use Leap Serials, exclusively. The workflow of selecting each individual issue and then clicking check in is slow and tedious.

  17. In Leap, after doing a search for record sets (ie. owned by a specific owner), you have to go into the record set in order to delete it. After doing this, it bumps you all the way back out of the Find Tool and the user has to redo the search completely. This is not ideal when attempting to clean up multiple record sets. Ideally there would be the ability to select multiple record sets and do a bulk delete (similar to how you can in the desktop client). Barring that, being bumped back to the search results would at…

  18. Right now in the Polaris SIP environment, if you attempt to get patron information using a 63 message, but you put in the WRONG password, the patron accounts LAST ACTIVITY DATE will STILL be updated.

We recently had a vendor that for some crazy reason, went through and was attempting a 63 message for all patron barcodes they had on file. This updated the last activity date for tens of thousands of patron accounts.

Although I suppose there could be some arguments for this behavior, it should not be the default. By default if an account login FAILS, for any…

  19. When you use SimplyReports (née Simply Reports) and create a report and select a LIBRARY, the report data is actually using the branches at the time the report was created. It is essentially a branch level report with the branches a the time of report creation.

This means that if you save the report, then you add a branch, that branch is NOT included in the report output. This causes confusion and extra work. There should be an option to truly make a "LIBRARY" level report, or part of the process of adding a new branch should go back and…

  20. It would be nice if from the staff side in Polaris and LEAP we could select whether to notify the patron if an item they placed on hold gets cancelled. Sometimes we have to cancel holds for various reasons and LEAP is often faster in notifying the patron with no context when their request was cancelled which can cause confusion for the patron. Staff should get the option of whether a patron gets notified or not and if possible, if we could have the option to add a message to the cancel notification they get.
    Relatedly, patrons should get a…
