  1. In the client we are able to create multiple new item records at the same time and we would like this functionality in LEAP as well.

  2. The edition statement should be added to the results list in the find tool and the duplicate detection results. The edition statement is already visible to patrons in the brief display of the records in the results list in the PowerPAC. When staff need to search by title or deduplicate records, they need to look at each record to identify the record for the correct edition. If the edition statement were added to the table that displays the results, they could identify the correct records in a more efficient manner.

  3. We teach staff that, except in very rare cases, they should always be placing bib level holds for customers but sometimes folks make mistakes. It would be great there was a check box option in Leap to convert a customer's item level hold to a bib level hold while retaining their position in the queue. Currently, if a staffer places an item level hold in error, to fix it, they have to place a new bib level hold and then use the checkbox and arrows in the queue to move them from last position (for example, 453) to their former…

  4. The way the PAC currently works, the three buttons on the right of each search result (Availability, Full Display, and Place Request) always appear if the bib is for a physical item, but only "Full Display" appears for e-resources. This indicates that the PAC already has the capability to suppress these buttons if conditions specific to the search result are met. It would be helpful if this ability could be expanded so that if all the items attached to a bib record for a physical item are not holdable, the "Place Request" button does not appear. The appearance of that…

  5. Currently if we need to change the branch we're logged into in Leap we need to sign-out and log back in. This can be disruptive if we have records opening we're working with that would then need to be re-opened. It would be handy if there was a way to do this without signing-out and back in, in a way that would allow records to remain open.

Admittedly I don't think this would be helpful for the majority of staff, likely more administrative roles that need to perform activity across a range of branches. But it would be a nice…

  6. We would like the ability to compare bibliographic records in Leap with ones from an outside source, like z39.50. This is a key part of our cataloguing process and is a necessary piece to moving those staff members over to Leap.

  7. In the Find Tool, allow users to filter by a library organization's branches by selecting a library 'quick pick' option. This would eliminate the need for a system used by multiple libraries to click each branch associated with their organization.

    Idea Value
In the Find Tool, in order to filter a search for an item with an assigned branch within our library organization, we are required to select the checkbox next to each branch from the drop-down menu. We have over 20 branches, which makes the filter cumbersome. We would like to be able to select all of our branches…

  8. Add an optional free-text MARC editing mode to the Leap MARC editor that allows professional catalogers to directly edit bibliographic fields as plain text. Ideally, this would be toggleable at the record level, allowing staff to switch between the formatted MARC view and freetext view as needed.

Leap's current MARC editor is great for copy cataloging, minimal edits, or non-professional staff. However, full-time professional catalogers are often frustrated by the inability to update multiple field at once, paste long blocks of MARC data or navigate through tags using the keyboard. For this type of workflow, Leap's editor is signficantly slower…

  9. Our libraries in our consortium are frustrated when items from other libraries arrive to fill holds for their patrons and their own copy is sitting on their shelves, making the process look rather inefficient.

What I think might solve this is implementing SirsiDynix's "Trap hold with first item received" feature. Rather than try to explain it myself, I've quoted it from their website below:

"Using the "Trap hold with first item received at pickup library" feature, the system can be configured to allow filling a library user's hold with the first holdable copy of an item received at the pickup…

  10. The ability to copy existing records makes record creation more efficient. In the Client, staff have the ability to copy an existing supplier record to create another one with similar information. This happens when staff have multiple supplier records for the same vendor because they have separate account numbers. A copy button is not in the supplier record workform in Leap yet. It should be added to the actions drop-down menu of the supplier record like it is in other record types. This will allow staff to feel like the transition to Leap will be easier since it is a…

  11. We would like the ability to match POLIs with on-order item templates on more data points, specifically shelf location, statistical code, and call number prefix. I expect that this means there would need to be extra fields to enter the POLI, and that would work out fine if that enabled the item records to be created accurately.

Our libraries use different shelf locations, statistical codes, and call number prefixes for items within the same collection. When placing an order, items are created from the on-order item templates, and only match on 3 data points: assigned branch, collection, and material type.…

  12. We have a long list of vendors and would like to clean it up, removing any who we no longer purchase from. This can't be done because of the links and layers in Acquisitions to attached purchase orders and invoices. It would help with clutter if there was a way to delete these suppliers or hide them in some way.

  13. When an item record set is viewed on a tablet or mobile device in Leap, the record set layout changes to accommodate the change in screen size. This includes the Shelf Location column no longer displaying. Staff create item record sets for displays and when they go out into the stacks with Leap on a tablet to pull the items, not having the Shelf Location included slows them down as they have to open the item records individually.

  14. This request is for a new feature to improve phone number search capabilities, specifically by handling varied formatting in the free-text phone number field.

The current phone number search often fails because it's a simple text match that can't account for different formats like hyphens, spaces, or parentheses. Staff will sometimes report back to a patron that their phone number isn't in the system because they didn't search for it in the way it was entered into the patron's record. This can then frustrate patrons if they continued to get called or texted by the notification system.

    Implementing a search…

  15. Implement a detailed and accessible audit log for all configuration changes made within the Polaris ILS System Administration (SA) and "adjacent" modules.

    Description of the Problem

The Polaris ILS lacks a granular, searchable audit trail for System Administration changes. This makes it difficult to determine who made a specific change, when it occurred, and what the previous setting was. This ambiguity hinders troubleshooting when a configuration error occurs, complicates training, and reduces accountability.

    Proposed Solution

A comprehensive, transaction-based audit log that automatically records the following data for every saved change in the SA module:

Timestamp: The precise date and time…

  16. The desktop client has the ability to send a record set to Label Manager; Leap does not. Without this feature, mass relabelling projects such as adding a new section are an enormous drain on staff time.

  17. As Polaris currently exists (v7.3 at my library), User 1 wants to share a bibliographic record set with User 2 and User 3. In order to do this, they have to change the record set's owner from User 1 to Organization 1. But this allows all members of Organization 1 with the permissions "Cataloging Record Sets: Modify" and "Cataloging Record Sets: Delete/Undelete" to make changes to that record set. Let's say that at some point down the road, User 4 sees this bib record set owned by Organization 1 and thinks they're being helpful by updating or deleting it. They…

  18. Polaris supports a preferred pickup branch for patrons. This request is to extend that support to allow the patron to set a preferred pickup area.

Many patrons prefer to 100% always use a particular pickup area, for example outside lockers. So, they shouldn't have to select that area everytime they make a request.

This would allow them to set their own preferred pickup area the way they can set a preferred pickup branch. This preferred pickup area should also be used when the staff bulk places a title on hold for a batch of patrons, again the same way the…

  19. To truly determine whether an item is "older than" a certain time frame for the weeding criteria in our consortium, it should be based on First available date, not Creation date. Many of our libraries add the item record when the item is ordered, which could be months before it actually releases, and they make the status either Being Acquired or In-Process until it's received and checked in, which updates its First available date at that point. Then the item actually begins its "life span" so to speak. So the item isn't truly "older than" a certain time frame until…

  20. Currently, there is only one way to receive and invoice orders in Leap. This workflow consists of receiving the line item from the purchase order and copying it to the invoice. In the Client, staff have the option to use a more efficient process called Rapid Receipt. Rapid Receipt allows line items to be received and copied to the invoice at the same time. In our consortia, a significant amount of libraries use Rapid Receipt. They are concerned that it has not been added to Leap yet. Since Rapid Receipt is available in the Client, the same functionality should be…
