  1. An option added in the patron registration that turns on a "loan tracking" feature. When checking out books, if this feature is turned on, then when a barcode is scanned that the patron has already borrowed a message comes up to let the patron know they have already read this title.

  2. Polaris has long supported an option in Patron Registration where you can mark a patron record as "Do Not Delete." I'd like to see that same functionality carried over to record sets. For me, it's a fairly common task to recover accidentally deleted record sets for staff members who've somehow managed to delete an important and often used record set, despite every warning they receive.

    Specifically, I'd like to see this option added at the permissions level, with separate permissions for:

    • Mark a record set as "do not delete"
    • Clear a record set for deletion

  3. We are upgrading to 7.7 and have just decided to NOT turn on the new feature that suppresses non-blocking 'blocks' such as the 'patron has holds' popup block.

  4. In the client, a POLI can be cancelled from the PO, POLI view or from within the POLI workform. In Leap, it can only be cancelled from the PO, POLI tab. Adding the ability to cancel from the POLI workform would reduce steps and reduce the likelihood of staff selecting the wrong POLI to cancel. This would help with the transition of tech services to Leap.

  5. In Leap Serials, the ability to select multiple issues and then click check in is needed for large libraries to use Leap Serials, exclusively. The workflow of selecting each individual issue and then clicking check in is slow and tedious.

  6. Currently, when we turn over weeding lists to staff to pull, they manually mark 'not on shelf - NOS' if they don't find the item. In order to make the new weeding list functional in LEAP, we need the weeding record sets to have the same sort of functionality as a PickList - a column where staff can either mark the item as 'Not Found' or "missing". Ideally the circulation status could be changed to missing at this point, removing the need to manually change these items in the system and remove them from the record set.

  7. Our librarians make regular use the staff client's bibliographic option to sort by "most popular" when searching by author, particularly when supporting the needs of children and families. Please provide sort by options in Leap to match those available in the staff client.

  8. Our Cataloging staff frequently have to place item-level holds on multiple items from the same bib record when making updates to the collection. Currently in Leap, these holds display in the patron's account with only the title, format, and call number. From this information it is impossible to tell which specific items have been placed on hold. Including the barcode and the assigned branch of the item would make it easier to tell different item-level holds apart when the items all have the same title.

In the toolbar version of Polaris, it is easy to make bulk changes to item records from the PO, which we occasionally need to do to change things like shelf locations, call number prefixes, and notes that can’t be added via the item record templates. In Leap, there’s no bulk change option on the items tab for a purchase order, and there is also no way to select the item records to add to a record set to be able to do a bulk change that way, meaning any edits to the item records needs to be done one by…

  10. In our system of 33 branch locations, we often receive system-wide email requests to complete checks of the stacks for items customers claim to have returned but that are still on their accounts.

    It would be helpful if Item Records had an additional "Action" option that allowed staff to select "Request Shelf Check". The item would then populate on every branch's picklist with a unique icon next to it, and there would be a checkbox at the top of the list, similar to "INN-Reach Only", that would allow staff to narrow the list to what was shelf check requested by…

  11. In the Item reports, some general filters categories, such as Stat Code, have a Not Present option. This allows staff to report by Collection Code or Material Type and exclude unwanted Stat Codes. It would be helpful to have the same option to exclude Shelf Locations.

  12. I don't know if this is already planned for a future version; I didn't see it on the current roadmap, though. It's really important for cataloguers that they be able to save a bib record without having to make a change first, particularly for provisional bib records. The only way to make a provisional record become final is to resave it, and currently, Leap requires you to make a change in any bib record before saving it. I know the duplicate detection without saving is now available, and that's a great feature - but allowing at least provisional bib records…

  13. A staff member asked us to post this. When using the quick search in leap and typing in a query does not lead to a record, the text should stay inputted so the staff member can edit their query as opposed to having to retype it all over again when trying again.

  14. When using the "Reset Password" option on a patron's account, it would be very useful to have a checkbox option to display the password that is being typed instead of a series of dots. By obscuring the password when typing we have found that our staff may accidentally leave caps lock on or type something incorrect - they would like the option to see what they are typing in these fields.   15. It would be great to have a way in Leap to change the patron barcode and have it auto populate the "Former Barcode" field in a single step. Perhaps a button could be added underneath "Reset Password" for "Replace Barcode" that simply prompts the staff member to scan a new barcode number. Leap would then move the existing barcode to the "Former Barcode" field, and then populate the Barcode field will the newly provided number. Help us save a few steps! Thanks for the consideration.

  17. Currently, the new 7.4 item language field is using the same Languages table used in patron registration. For patron records, the language preference field displays in their account in PowerPAC. Patrons use this field to select their preferred notification language.

    If a library wants to add a new language to the Languages table, it will be added as an option for both item records and patron accounts. This is problematic, because many libraries purchase materials in far more languages than they offer notices in.   18. I'm repeatedly finding instances where a patron is missing their registration date. At first, I thought it was migrated data, but after updating those records, I discovered it happening over and over. Please prevent the registration date from being deleted.

  19. It can be confusing when staff look at the history for an item and it says it was Checked in/Available and then it shows it as Withdrawn. This happens when we are preparing bills and we need to withdraw an item with the Circulation Status of Lost/Damaged/Replacement cost before we can bill the other library. It would be nice to open the Item Record for the specific item and declare it Withdrawn. I would suggest that a BIG RED BOX pop up and say "YOU ARE GETTING READY TO DECLARE THIS ITEM WITHDRAWN. IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT TO DO?" …

  20. Incorrect email addresses and phone numbers in patron records cause hold and overdue notices to fail. This results in a negative patron experience and requires wasted staff time for troubleshooting and manual data correction. Polaris should behave like other systems and verify contact information before using it.

    When an email address is entered into a record, the system will send a message with a verification link. After the patron clicks the link, the email's status in the ILS will change from "Unverified" to "Verified". A visual indicator will show the verified status to both staff and patrons.
