  1. In our system of 33 branch locations, we often receive system-wide email requests to complete checks of the stacks for items customers claim to have returned but that are still on their accounts.

    It would be helpful if Item Records had an additional "Action" option that allowed staff to select "Request Shelf Check". The item would then populate on every branch's picklist with a unique icon next to it, and there would be a checkbox at the top of the list, similar to "INN-Reach Only", that would allow staff to narrow the list to what was shelf check requested by…

  2. We would like the ability to do stacked sorting in searches and record sets. This would allow the user to sort by one aspect and then another with it stacked (eg. sorting by pub date and then call number, so you see items within a call number in pub date order). In both searches and record sets, it only seems to sort by the current choice, meaning the way it's sorted within that one type is random (or alphabetical by title, which isn’t always the most useful).

  3. A staff member asked us to post this. When using the quick search in leap and typing in a query does not lead to a record, the text should stay inputted so the staff member can edit their query as opposed to having to retype it all over again when trying again.

    1. Open a patron record in leap
    2. Navigate to the notes section
    3. Make a change to the note field
    4. Click the button to close the note (upper right hand corner)

    The note is not saved, nor is a warning message shown. This is different from the behavior of the desktop, which always saves the note when you close the record (not really the preferred behavior either since there is no undo in notes).

    This should work the way changes to the patron registrations work in Leap - warn there has been a change before allowing the record to be closed.

  4. Right now, automatic renewals happen 3 days before the due date. If the item someone has out is supposed to fill a hold for someone else then it never automatically renews even if another item ends up filling that hold. There should be a schedule for automatic renewals to occur 3 days, 2 days, 1 day, before the item is due and the day the item is due so there are multiple opportunities for that item to automatically renew in the event that a hold gets filled by another library and that item is now eligible for renewal again.   5. In Leap Serials, the ability to select multiple issues and then click check in is needed for large libraries to use Leap Serials, exclusively. The workflow of selecting each individual issue and then clicking check in is slow and tedious.

  6. I would like to be able to have a particular hold become active after a different hold has become filled. This is particularly useful for customers who are engaged in a series and do not want them all at once, but do want them in order and want to place all the holds at the same time.

  7. We would like the ability to made Collection a required field when adding item records. While we can instruct all of our members to have Collections selected as part of their templates, there is still the possibility of forgetting and having items that are missing a collection. Having a collection at minimum, and ideally collection and shelf location combination set on each item greatly helps wayfinding for the patrons, and we'd like Polaris to allow us to enforce selection of at least a Collection.   9. If you are adjusting the column settings for Leap, the list of available options is not in alphabetical order. This makes it easier to overlook what options might be available to select.

In order to require patrons who are self-registering via the PAC to choose a notification preference, please remove the 'none' option from the Preferences dropdown, or at least allow for the option to customize what appears in the Preferences dropdown. By removing 'none' - or allowing for the option to remove it - patrons would effectively be required to provide a notification method, which would allow the library they are self-registering with to easily contact them should any problems arise with their application.

  11. Library staff frequently place holds that can’t be filled on the records for e-books from non-integrated vendors like Hoopla. Canceling these holds takes time. Since we still need to allow holds for the integrated vendors, we can’t change the material type to unholdable in system administration. Adding the ability to block holds by resource group or vendor account would solve the problem.

  12. Our library team have requested to be able to see the series name and volume number in the returned bib records when searching with the find tool. It will mean they no longer need to open each result to see this information

  13. Library staff regularly have need to copy a customer's name from their Leap patron record into our room reservation system. Currently you cannot copy the name displayed in the leap patron record header but you can copy the barcode directly below. Clicking into registration isn't helpful as a copy option the name info is in separate fields.

  14. Adding a icon/button within the Patron Status "Items Out" view which would send an email to the email address on file for the patron which lists all items currently checked out and their due date.

    There is already a print icon/button on the Patron Status "Items Out" view which can be used to print the list of items out and their due date. Adding an email icon/button would allow patrons to receive this list easily via email when they come to the desk and ask staff for a list of the items checked out.

  15. This request is for a new feature to improve phone number search capabilities, specifically by handling varied formatting in the free-text phone number field.

    The current phone number search often fails because it's a simple text match that can't account for different formats like hyphens, spaces, or parentheses. Staff will sometimes report back to a patron that their phone number isn't in the system because they didn't search for it in the way it was entered into the patron's record. This can then frustrate patrons if they continued to get called or texted by the notification system.

  16. Polaris has long supported an option in Patron Registration where you can mark a patron record as "Do Not Delete." I'd like to see that same functionality carried over to record sets. For me, it's a fairly common task to recover accidentally deleted record sets for staff members who've somehow managed to delete an important and often used record set, despite every warning they receive.

    Specifically, I'd like to see this option added at the permissions level, with separate permissions for:

    • Mark a record set as "do not delete"
    • Clear a record set for deletion

  17. Currently, the only option for importing a file with bibliographic data into a record set in Leap is by ISBN. It would be helpful for staff to have the option to be able to use UPC as well, as ISBN restricts this to just books and audiobooks. This leaves out DVDs and Blu-rays, as well as other non-book/audiobook material such as a Library of Things.

  18. Sometimes libraries leave a consortium. Sometimes a branch is closed or merged into another branch. And after the Polaris ILS Admin takes care of clearing out all the bib, item, and patron data... the branches and libraries remain in System Administration.

    Just sitting there and doing nothing.

    I know it's a huge pain to remove a branch or library from Polaris and I know there's likely an extra cost to it because it's such an involved process.

    So add the ability to hide them instead.

  19. Currently staff can either edit/modify bib records or they can't. Greater granularity in what edits can be allowed would help distribute the work of maintaining bib records.

    For example, if acquisitions staff could be allowed to add additional ISBNs or UPCs to existing bibs, it would free up cataloguing staff from this simple task without opening bib editing completely to a large number of people.

    In a larger library system, especially a consortium with a shared catalogue, this could be a big time-saver to both acq and cat staff.
