  1. We'd like added the ability to purge report downloads from SimplyReports that are sitting in user folders. This would include deleting ad hoc report, scheduled report, and saved report extracts from their respective user folders after a specified number of days.

    Currently these settings are listed under the Admin section of SimplyReports, but we only found out recently there is no process tied to the settings. We'd like to see this functionality built. Details about their unavailability can be found in the SimplyReports help article "Set the general application defaults" (bottom).

  2. Currently, when a patron changes their password via the OPAC (change logon > change password), no notification is made to the customer nor is the modification date in the patron registration record updated.

    I would like to see an email/SMS notification be issued to the customer when a password is changed via this method as well as have the modification date updated.

  3. It would be nice if from the staff side in Polaris and LEAP we could select whether to notify the patron if an item they placed on hold gets cancelled. Sometimes we have to cancel holds for various reasons and LEAP is often faster in notifying the patron with no context when their request was cancelled which can cause confusion for the patron. Staff should get the option of whether a patron gets notified or not and if possible, if we could have the option to add a message to the cancel notification they get.

  4. We had a front-line staff member contact us because he was getting a "The domain, username or password is incorrect" error message when he tried to log in to Leap. Support was able to tell us that he was locked out because he had incorrectly typed his password five times. They confirmed that the error message that will be shown when this happens is "The domain, username or password is incorrect." Not only is that error message text factually untrue, it is identical to the error message that a staff person sees if their password actually IS being entered incorrectly.…

  5. Often library staff place requests on specific items and need to follow-up when the item is returned (check condition, re-label, compare copies of title, replace, discard, etc.). Our previous ILS supported a hold notes field that would display the saved note when the item was checked out. This reminded staff of why they had requested the item, or would let another staff member know what needed to be done with the item when the hold was filled.   6. I'm specifically looking for a great integration between the cataloging tool BTCat and Polaris.

    Libraries use tools like BTCat and Skyriver to search for new bib records and update/edit existing records. After making changes, the records currently have to be exported from the cataloging software, then imported into Polaris. These tools have the ability to "push" records into other ILS systems, skipping the need for a manual export/import of records. Adding this functionality would aid libraries in transitioning away from the Polaris desktop client (as bibliographic editing in Leap is a tedious process, at best).

    We actually added an endpoint to support this integration in Polaris 7.6 (BibsPost). We've been working with BTCat to consume the endpoint in their application.


    I'm going to set this to "Planned" for now because the integration is not live with BTCat yet. But the development piece required for Polaris has been done. Please let BTCat know you are interested!!

  7. In Polaris, when you are in an INLI you can click the New button you get the option to Copy Existing Work Form. The new INLI retains some values from the existing one (e.g. fund, title, author).
    In LEAP you need to exit the INLI, and then click the New Line Item button, which does not fill in any of the information. Makes adding line items slower and more repetitive when you need to re-enter everything.

  8. Right now, automatic renewals happen 3 days before the due date. If the item someone has out is supposed to fill a hold for someone else then it never automatically renews even if another item ends up filling that hold. There should be a schedule for automatic renewals to occur 3 days, 2 days, 1 day, before the item is due and the day the item is due so there are multiple opportunities for that item to automatically renew in the event that a hold gets filled by another library and that item is now eligible for renewal again.   9. Currently staff can either edit/modify bib records or they can't. Greater granularity in what edits can be allowed would help distribute the work of maintaining bib records.

    For example, if acquisitions staff could be allowed to add additional ISBNs or UPCs to existing bibs, it would free up cataloguing staff from this simple task without opening bib editing completely to a large number of people.

    In a larger library system, especially a consortium with a shared catalogue, this could be a big time-saver to both acq and cat staff.

  10. Sometimes I have a lot of records open in the workform tracker, and it's a pain to have to go into each to close it. It would be useful to have a button I could quickly click to close them instead.

    In cases where a record has been modified it should generate a prompt about saving changes, and show you the record again in this case so it's clear what's being saved.

  11. Leap should include the ability to create or add to an item record from the check-in workform. Most of the functionality is already there in that items can be selected via checkboxes and all items can selected from the topmost checkbox. By adding the option to the Actions menu, circ staff could quickly roll items over into a record set for a variety of other uses.

  12. In Polaris, a single delete of a bib/item record will result in that record being 'marked for deletion.' It is no longer visible in the PAC, but is still visible in Polaris with a Deleted status. Deleting a record in Deleted status, or what we've termed 'double-delete,' will result in the record being fully purged from the database.

    Sometimes, staff will delete a record and go back to it to verify the deletion. They see it's still visible in Polaris (missing the Deleted status) and delete it a second time. This accidental purging results in no longer being able to…

  14. Currently, staff modifications to patron registration including card renewal do not update the Patron Last Activity Date (LAD). As more libraries move towards long or no expiration periods, LAD becomes even more important for patron database maintenance. We have seen cases in which patrons renew their card without any additional activity resulting in their record being purged during cleanup. Including renewal and/or extending the card expiration period in LAD will better allow libraries to track patron engagement.

  15. Allow users to sort checked-in items by clicking on the column headers on the check-in screen in Leap.

    Library staff double check their work by counting the number of items on their check-in cart and comparing it with the item count displayed on the check-in screen. If there is a discrepancy, being able to sort the columns would help staff more easily find items that didn't get checked in properly.

    Also, please add a call number column to the check-in screen.

  16. I realized recently that all our bibliographic records have the Modification Date populated, even new records. It turns out that the process of creating the record will update the Modification Date due to an aspect of the process. This doesn't seem part of the intended design, so it would make sense to correct the process to stop adding a Modification Date entry.

  17. We would like to see additional information and functions available in the Polaris Client or LEAP so that staff have more resources and information to support customers with questions about online resources.

    For example, library staff would benefit from seeing real-time hold information in Polaris about items on Overdrive or Hoopla. Currently, Polaris shows an asterix (*) under holds. Library staff need to either go to the PAC or Overdrive to provide customers with this information.   18. Allow POLIs and INVLIs to be moved by staff with the correct permissions to a different bib than they were ordered on.

    We regularly order something that the vendor record matches to an ISBN in our catalog - sometimes this is because we have multiple ISBNs on a bib but the record is for a particular version, sometimes (mostly with AV) it is because the UPC has not been assigned as unique (rated and unrated versions, for example).

  19. When libraries within our consortium borrow and lend items among each other, they send those items through the mail. Currently, they have to manually look up each other's mailing addresses (many times by Googling which isn't always accurate). It would save staff time and reduce errors if a library's mailing address could be included on the In-Transit Slips.

Today if a record set is deleted it's still visible in the list of record sets a specific record is a part of (either on the Record Sets tab in Leap, or list of Linked Record Sets in the client). However there's no clear indicator that it's a deleted record set, which can cause confusion for staff.
