  1. Currently, the only way to view pending holds for pickup at other libraries in Request Manager is in the Polaris Client. We would like this brought over to Leap. This idea would make the Request Manager in Leap and the client equal in terms of capabilities.

  2. For our system, having both an expiration date and an address check date is redundant, and staff constantly fail to update the address check date to match the expiration date. I'd like to have the ability to suppress the address check date as well as other fields, such as street address lines 1 and 2.

  3. When you use SimplyReports (née Simply Reports) and create a report and select a LIBRARY, the report data is actually using the branches at the time the report was created. It is essentially a branch level report with the branches a the time of report creation.

This means that if you save the report, then you add a branch, that branch is NOT included in the report output. This causes confusion and extra work. There should be an option to truly make a "LIBRARY" level report, or part of the process of adding a new branch should go back and…

  4. When I browse in the PAC (specifically, by call number) it provides a list of call numbers. I can choose one, and am brought to it. But, if I want to look at the neighboring items, I have to "Go back to Browse Results" and select the next one from the list. It would be much easier to arrow back/forward between results without returning to the results list.

  5. Often library staff place requests on specific items and need to follow-up when the item is returned (check condition, re-label, compare copies of title, replace, discard, etc.). Our previous ILS supported a hold notes field that would display the saved note when the item was checked out. This reminded staff of why they had requested the item, or would let another staff member know what needed to be done with the item when the hold was filled. The note would either display as a pop-up or as part of the table of checkout information. The note could be printable if…

  6. It would be a real timesaver if Polaris could automatically convert AACR2 records to RDA records upon import. Even if only partial changes could be made, it would be a big help to our catalogers.

  7. Allow users to sort checked-in items by clicking on the column headers on the check-in screen in Leap.

Library staff double check their work by counting the number of items on their check-in cart and comparing it with the item count displayed on the check-in screen. If there is a discrepancy, being able to sort the columns would help staff more easily find items that didn't get checked in properly.

Also, please add a call number column to the check-in screen.

  8. In Polaris, when you are in an INLI you can click the New button you get the option to Copy Existing Work Form. The new INLI retains some values from the existing one (e.g. fund, title, author).
In LEAP you need to exit the INLI, and then click the New Line Item button, which does not fill in any of the information. Makes adding line items slower and more repetitive when you need to re-enter everything.

  9. We'd like added the ability to purge report downloads from SimplyReports that are sitting in user folders. This would include deleting ad hoc report, scheduled report, and saved report extracts from their respective user folders after a specified number of days.

Currently these settings are listed under the Admin section of SimplyReports, but we only found out recently there is no process tied to the settings. We'd like to see this functionality built. Details about their unavailability can be found in the SimplyReports help article "Set the general application defaults" (bottom).

  11. Details on items going in-transit, enroute, and/or transferred are not kept within the Polaris Transactions database. Instead, the data is only kept within the Polaris database. This means if an item is deleted, then statistics on it going in-transit/transferred/enroute are lost. The enhancement request here would be to include that information into the Polaris Transactions database.

This could also serve as a generic enhancement request for increased reporting abilities within Simply Reports. It seems there are a lot of things our libraries would like reports on that are not possible to create within Simply Reports. It almost always involves historical…

  12. On an item record, you can currently only see the information about the current borrower and the most recent previous borrower. This should be increased to at least 3, so that in the case of a question about condition or missing parts, we have more than 1 patron we can ask.

  13. In the staff client if you accidentally have an item record open during a bulk change that includes that item, it will provide an error after the change happens and the change won't happen to the item record that was left open. There should be a warning that alerts the user to close the item record before they can make the bulk change.

  14. The ability to create keyboard shortcuts to insert (paste) pre-defined text. Prior to the advanced marc editor added in Polaris 7.6, our catalogers were able to use the program QuickPaste in which we had lines and lines of pre-defined text often used in creating bib records. This was a huge time saver and this no longer works with marc editor.

Some examples of text we programmed are as follows:
Ctrl+Alt+B – opens a list of pre-defined text which our catalogers could select from when creating book records.
    ‡atext‡btxt‡2rdacontent > inserted into the 336 field
    ‡avolume‡bnc‡2rdacarrier > inserted into the 338…

  16. Current functionality says "If the item is held at your library (the pickup branch is the same as your log-in branch), and you change the pickup branch, the hold will automatically change from Held to Shipped."

We would like this to function the same as if the item is not at your location and mark the item so it appears on the holds to transfer list. The staff will then scan the item to mark it as shipped. We have staff that work at different service points no where near our holds shelves and it would be convenient if they…

  18. Allow staff to customize the display of columns in the item record history, as they can in the display of search results. For example, our staff have pointed out that for each action the item's assigned branch displays prominently, but it is less relevant that the "location" (i.e., the branch where the history action took place). They would find it much clearer and easier to use if they could control the order of those columns, and set it as Date / Location / User/WKS / Status / Action / Assigned Branch.

  20. When staff are placing individual holds for a patron Leap and the Desktop client allow staff to use the pickup branch as the branch where the staff member is logged in*. For libraries with centralized call centers it would be helpful to offer to use the patron's preferred branch when placing the hold request for the patron.

Of course, this will need to be cleared indicated to the staff member what their preferred location is as they should still verbally confirm that is the location they want to use.

It might also be nice to have a SA setting that…
