  1. Patron records have 5 UDFs and 10 Custom Data Fields – item records have none of these. As a result, many libraries end up doing some weird stuff with the Name of Piece and Temporary Shelf Location. This idea would add 10 or so custom item record fields that libraries can choose how they would like to use.

    Ideally, fields would be capable of multiple data types including freetext, Boolean, date, or numeric. In a perfect world, it could also support a drop down list like the UDFs! The fields would also be searchable in the find tool, just like…

  2. At the demonstration of Leap at IUG, we learned that PO line item duplicate check action is not available in Leap from the PO workform. We need to be alerted to existing items in our systems if we own them, to attach add copy orders to existing bibs. Please add this functionality.

    1. Open a patron record in leap
    2. Navigate to the notes section
    3. Make a change to the note field
    4. Click the button to close the note (upper right hand corner)

    The note is not saved, nor is a warning message shown. This is different from the behavior of the desktop, which always saves the note when you close the record (not really the preferred behavior either since there is no undo in notes).

    This should work the way changes to the patron registrations work in Leap - warn there has been a change before allowing the record to be closed.

  3. Being a visual learner it is complicated to go from the icons in Polaris being a much larger size and being in color to what is shown in Leap. The icons in Leap are much smaller and have no color to differentiate them. For the sake of Accessibility purposes is there any way that the icons can be bigger and to add a pop of color to them in Leap. Attached are pictures of the icons in Polaris from the toolbar vs Leap.

  4. The ability to create keyboard shortcuts to insert (paste) pre-defined text. Prior to the advanced marc editor added in Polaris 7.6, our catalogers were able to use the program QuickPaste in which we had lines and lines of pre-defined text often used in creating bib records. This was a huge time saver and this no longer works with marc editor.

    Some examples of text we programmed are as follows:
    Ctrl+Alt+B – opens a list of pre-defined text which our catalogers could select from when creating book records.

  5. In Simply Reports, some filter menus do not populate options until a library/branch is chosen (i.e. Shelf Location, Stat Code, Statistical Class). This is helpful for consortia because the menus only become populated with the options available at each selected branch(es), keeping the options to a manageable size.

    We would like to see this dynamic menu functionality applied to the Collection, Material Type, and Patron Code filters as well.

    Currently, our consortium has 55 Material Types, 57 Patron Codes, and 284 Collections to choose from in these menus, which becomes quite overwhelming for users and involves A LOT of tedious…

  6. When using import profiles for EDI ordering you must add the "retain 020" field in order for the 020 to overlay onto an existing bib record when ordering additional copies. This is annoying because each time you reorder, another 020 line gets stamped into the bib - adding more lines for Cataloging staff to delete when the item comes in.

    If you remove the "retain 020 tag" no more duplicate 020s get stamped onto the bib, but also any new-to-the-bib 020 also does not get added. This is a problem especially with AV, where some vendors use a 020 tag…

  7. Please add a link for the serials holding record to the bib record for serials, either under the Links menu or by displaying the serials record ID. Because the search box in Leap only retrieves bib records, often staff forget that they are looking at the bib record for a serial and so they have to perform a new search using the Find tool to get to the holding record.   8. I regularly have need to provide a list of items to partner organizations. This would be most easily accomplished by simply exporting the data from an existing record set to excel. I have also recently had need for an export option from a Patron Record set. Export is currently an option for Bib Record Sets and I am hoping it can be added for Patron and Item as well.

  11. Currently we have to send patrons from our websites to the PAC if they need to reset their passwords. It would be great if there was an API call for this, as it's disruptive to the patron experience to have to send them to another site.

    The suggested functionality would reflect the PAC experience: once they enter a barcode, a password reset email would be sent to the email address on the account.

  12. It is frustrating that Polaris allows items that have not been received to circulate. There is probably not a connection between the PO status and the item status – but it sure would be nice if there was! We recently had an incident where items were distributed to branches before having been invoiced and received. A few days later when the invoice was processed, the items were all changed to a status of In-Process, even though they had already been checked out or were in a status of Being Held.   14. A staff member asked us to post this. When using the quick search in leap and typing in a query does not lead to a record, the text should stay inputted so the staff member can edit their query as opposed to having to retype it all over again when trying again.

  15. Details on items going in-transit, enroute, and/or transferred are not kept within the Polaris Transactions database. Instead, the data is only kept within the Polaris database. This means if an item is deleted, then statistics on it going in-transit/transferred/enroute are lost. The enhancement request here would be to include that information into the Polaris Transactions database.

  16. When you use SimplyReports (née Simply Reports) and create a report and select a LIBRARY, the report data is actually using the branches at the time the report was created. It is essentially a branch level report with the branches a the time of report creation.

    This means that if you save the report, then you add a branch, that branch is NOT included in the report output. This causes confusion and extra work. There should be an option to truly make a "LIBRARY" level report, or part of the process of adding a new branch should go back and…

  18. Polaris supports a preferred pickup branch for patrons. This request is to extend that support to allow the patron to set a preferred pickup area.

    Many patrons prefer to 100% always use a particular pickup area, for example outside lockers. So, they shouldn't have to select that area everytime they make a request.

  19. It would be very helpful to have a more robust item record history. It appears that only the last 12 months of item history is available. It would be great if Polaris would:
    A) keep the history of changes in the item record forever
    B) improve the data that is stored and presented to staff, for example, so we could see what exactly was edited on 7-26-23 in the screenshot attached. Perhaps by clicking on the entry and having the information pop up.
