  1. Currently, the only way to view pending holds for pickup at other libraries in Request Manager is in the Polaris Client. We would like this brought over to Leap. This idea would make the Request Manager in Leap and the client equal in terms of capabilities.

  2. For our system, having both an expiration date and an address check date is redundant, and staff constantly fail to update the address check date to match the expiration date. I'd like to have the ability to suppress the address check date as well as other fields, such as street address lines 1 and 2.

  3. Details on items going in-transit, enroute, and/or transferred are not kept within the Polaris Transactions database. Instead, the data is only kept within the Polaris database. This means if an item is deleted, then statistics on it going in-transit/transferred/enroute are lost. The enhancement request here would be to include that information into the Polaris Transactions database.

This could also serve as a generic enhancement request for increased reporting abilities within Simply Reports. It seems there are a lot of things our libraries would like reports on that are not possible to create within Simply Reports. It almost always involves historical…

  4. On an item record, you can currently only see the information about the current borrower and the most recent previous borrower. This should be increased to at least 3, so that in the case of a question about condition or missing parts, we have more than 1 patron we can ask.

  5. When I browse in the PAC (specifically, by call number) it provides a list of call numbers. I can choose one, and am brought to it. But, if I want to look at the neighboring items, I have to "Go back to Browse Results" and select the next one from the list. It would be much easier to arrow back/forward between results without returning to the results list.

  7. When staff are placing individual holds for a patron Leap and the Desktop client allow staff to use the pickup branch as the branch where the staff member is logged in*. For libraries with centralized call centers it would be helpful to offer to use the patron's preferred branch when placing the hold request for the patron.

Of course, this will need to be cleared indicated to the staff member what their preferred location is as they should still verbally confirm that is the location they want to use.

It might also be nice to have a SA setting that…

  8. The patron birthdate field and postal code field both require correct formatting to save the record. If would be helpful to staff if Leap could have auto-formatting (as many web forms do), e.g. insert the dashes in the birthdate (yyyy-mm-dd) and capitalize and insert the space in the postal code (A1A 1A1).

Adding the calendar date picker back for the birthdate field would also be great, assuming that the issues it used to cause could be resolved.

  9. Currently there are a lot of search options that many of our staff do not use within the search tool. I would love a way to customize this per user either to have favorites that float to the top or a way to suppress options that can still be quickly revealed for those extra rare use cases.

  10. Can the Serials Check-In utility be updated to allow bulk deletion of predicted serials issues? When a weekly/bi-weekly publication changes the day of the week that issues are released, it is easier to update predicted issues in the desktop client* but staff without authorization to create prediction patterns cannot complete this work in Leap. This slows down access for community members.
*In the desktop client, staff can bulk delete all but one predicted issue, edit the remaining predicted issue to match the new publication date, and then bulk predict issues to match the new day of week without closing and…

  12. If staff attempt to check out an item with an "unexpected" status, such as Withdrawn, Unavailable, or Missing the checkout fails, with an error message "unexpected item status." Staff must check the item in to change its status to Available, and then check it out. This breaks the flow of the checkout transactions and causes a delay for the patron. It would be very helpful if we could specify in System Administration which statuses cause a complete failure of the checkout (the current rule for all of these statuses), which cause a warning message that staff can override, and which…

  13. When you use SimplyReports (née Simply Reports) and create a report and select a LIBRARY, the report data is actually using the branches at the time the report was created. It is essentially a branch level report with the branches a the time of report creation.

This means that if you save the report, then you add a branch, that branch is NOT included in the report output. This causes confusion and extra work. There should be an option to truly make a "LIBRARY" level report, or part of the process of adding a new branch should go back and…

  14. When using import profiles for EDI ordering you must add the "retain 020" field in order for the 020 to overlay onto an existing bib record when ordering additional copies. This is annoying because each time you reorder, another 020 line gets stamped into the bib - adding more lines for Cataloging staff to delete when the item comes in.

If you remove the "retain 020 tag" no more duplicate 020s get stamped onto the bib, but also any new-to-the-bib 020 also does not get added. This is a problem especially with AV, where some vendors use a 020 tag…

  15. In Polaris, a single delete of a bib/item record will result in that record being 'marked for deletion.' It is no longer visible in the PAC, but is still visible in Polaris with a Deleted status. Deleting a record in Deleted status, or what we've termed 'double-delete,' will result in the record being fully purged from the database.

Sometimes, staff will delete a record and go back to it to verify the deletion. They see it's still visible in Polaris (missing the Deleted status) and delete it a second time. This accidental purging results in no longer being able to…

  16. Patron records have 5 UDFs and 10 Custom Data Fields – item records have none of these. As a result, many libraries end up doing some weird stuff with the Name of Piece and Temporary Shelf Location. This idea would add 10 or so custom item record fields that libraries can choose how they would like to use.

Ideally, fields would be capable of multiple data types including freetext, Boolean, date, or numeric. In a perfect world, it could also support a drop down list like the UDFs! The fields would also be searchable in the find tool, just like…

  17. Allow bulk change to all fields in the bulk change workform when the record set contains patrons from more than one registered branch. Currently, the system requires that a single registration branch must be applied to the patron records before changing the patron code and/or the library assigned blocks. These values are set at the branch level; however, most libraries use consistent patron codes and blocks across branches.

This was previously submitted in the old enhancement process:

"Bulk changing a patron code requires the selection of a registered branch. We request that this requirement be suppressed if all branches can…

  18. Periodically we might need to update a large number of records. Like changing 10,000 item records to not display in PAC. When we have done that during the library hours it negatively impacts response time. What would be desired would be an option to schedule the update for after hours.

  19. Just as bulk change applies to all the records in a record set (whether they are all loaded or not), sorting should apply to all the records, not just the ones that are initially loaded.

  20. It would be helpful if the bib duplicate check popup had an option to open the records in a Compare window. Currently staff have to do a separate search for the potential duplicate records to be able to closely compare them and/or copy data from one to another, then redo the duplicate check to merge them.
