It was our patrons that were updated and now we have misleading stats for this year and comparisons to prior years and the coming years. Unfortunately, these were cards that are part of a community partnership so now we're going to have figure out the best way to weed out this false activity. Hopefully this is something that can get fixed quickly.

I like the idea of a new status. Another possibility is adding a new field that would give you more flexibility with what to do with the item when it is checked in. You could have it be a temporary On Display so on check in it would just go back to In/Shelving Cart or permanent which would cause it to go back to On Display. I'm not sure if another value needs to be added to account for libraries with floating collections or not.

I have written many custom reports to weed out renewals from stats since it is the first time circulation that is important for understanding usage of material. It would be a game changer to have the renewals count as a separate field in the item.

I have some queries to determine who should be deleted and have to use the modification date in addition to the last activity date so that I don't delete a patron whose registration was recently updated and/or had a note added (evictions from premises). I'm not sure I'd want the last activity date to be updated since we use 3 years for no activity, but I only use a little over a year for last modification to determine which records to delete.

Yes, I would love for the former barcode field to auto-populate or at least prompt you to ask if you'd like to populate it when you are updating the barcode.
