I just realized that there is a single code chart that does include the most common symbols. It is called "MARC-8 Plus!" This actually solves most of the problems for catalogers. I can see that it would really suck if I needed special characters and could not get to the map at all.

This would be useful in cataloging as well. Mostly you use the copyright and phonograph copyright symbols, but is is a real pain that those two are on completely different character groups. If I could have a custom thing I could open that would just have those two that get used all the time, it would be really nice.

I don't know what key-based authentication is, but EBSCO Discovery Service uses mft addresses. I have them working in Scheduler. I don't know about Data Exchange. I never send directly from Data Exchange. I've only saved to desktop, then send with some other software.

For those with IT who won't let you use the old Jaspersoft, I would point out that you can edit a jrxml file with notepad++. It's a pain, but then so is Jaspersoft.

We have also had employees engage in malicious activity, like deleting items to implement their personal censorship. Logs of staff activity would have been invaluable.

Most of our libraries don't use ICODE1 at all because keeping track of what they mean is a pain. However, I would point out that this would require all the libraries in a consortium to agree on what the codes mean. As it is, each one can make them mean whatever they want. I suppose if you can't agree, then you could leave them blank, and those who can agree could label them.
