Update print templates to support current release of Jaspersoft Studio.
The ability to create custom print templates is an essential component of many parts of the system. LX Starter is a viable replacement for the templates used for notices but not for the printing of things like due slips, spine labels, and hold slips that must remain within the SDA to support daily workflows.
Print templates are designed in a third party software called Jaspersoft Studio, but Sierra's documentation lists version 6.0 as being the last supported version of that software. However, that version is roughly 10 years old and the installer only seems to exist as an old link hiding in CSDirect. The software is now up to version 6.21. It is essential to the continued functioning of Sierra that this software remains compatible. All template data libraries must be updated to keep current with the software they rely on.
This idea will be reviewed by the Innovative product team for consideration in planning the upcoming product roadmap.

As Kimberly mentioned, organizations with rigorous IT compliance policies will not permit use of long-outdated software like the Sierra-compatible version of JasperSoft Studio. Obtaining permission for this has proven impossible, and for good reason. I appears that 6.21.3 is the most current 6.x version, but that a 7.x version now exists which may be even less compatible since "the new JRXML 7 model is not compatible with currently existing JasperReports Server versions" as per the information at the following URL:

Many academic libraries work with their campus IT Services. For both security and functionality, IT Services require that campus units update their systems as upgrades are rolled out. To continue the use of out of date software can require filing exception requests which are not always granted. In which case, the libraries lose that functionality. To support both security and functionality, Sierra template data libraries should be updated to the current Jaspersoft product.

This would be great for our consortium! We provide training to our member libraries on using this software to update templates and there has been confusion in the past when library staff have assumed (as most people would!) that they should download the most recent release of Jaspersoft. This would save us and them a lot of time figuring out the correct software, and as Jeremy said it's important to stay current with what software is available and compatible.
