  1. Part of the homebound module is to add ratings to checked in items for the patron.
The rating data for the Homebound module is not kept in the Sierra SQL database, but rather in a separate log which is used to create the Homebound Patron Report so it cannot be accessed through Sierra Direct SQL Access. It would be nice if the ratings were more accessible in the SQL tables. Thanks.

  2. Currently, when a patron is logged into their Encore account and they place a request, the system will default to their home library for the pickup location. If they want to pick up somewhere else, they have to manually choose that option from the dropdown menu.

We want to keep the home library field limited to physical library locations, but allow for alternative pickup options that aren't specifically a home library (community pickup location, or hold lockers, etc). Right now, if you want to pick up somewhere other than your home library, you have to choose from a dropdown option.…

  3. Add an additional multi-character fixed-length field for patron records

Our library would like to be able to track the branch at which a library card was issued separately from a patron's home library/preferred pickup location. Currently, we only have the "home library" field to store this information.

There isn't an available fixed-length field for us to adapt for this purpose, and we expect a variable-length field will be prone to too many variations, typos, etc. over time to be reliable.

  4. Currently when using the "forgot your PIN" reset PIN /Password function in the WebPAC the patron completes a pin reset form and then the system emails the patron with a link to the PIN Reset form.

We would like to see an option to SMS the patron with the link. This would be helpful for readers who have don't have access to their email / or have changed their email address.

  5. Circulation staff would like the ability to waive portions of individual fines/fees on a patron record.

Sometimes staff forgets to backdate items in our book drop or the library is closed for some reason (weather, etc.). Staff wants to waive part of the late fee, but are forced to waive the full amount for the item, then go back and enter in a manual fee (or just waive completely).

    Idea Value

Save staff time (no need to waive and then add a fine back in)

Accuracy re: fines paid data (will be properly noted as fine vs. manual)

    Increase customer…

  6. When you retrieve a patron record, the system displays information from that record in the top half of the window. See https://csdirect.iii.com/sierrahelp/Default.php#sril/sril_disp_patron.html for details.

This height of this area of the patron record display is quite short.
While you can make adjustments with WHAT is displayed, the number of columns used in each display is not configurable. (I.e., the Custom Display option always displays the specified record fields in a single column.).

Yes, to view more fields in the patron’s record, you can hover your cursor over the i icon (which no one pays attention to/misses completely), and an expanded…

  7. Resurrecting Sam Cook's Level Up idea to Go to full patron account from patron review file results.

As Sam noted in the earlier challenge, library staff regularly run patron lists in Create Lists, and need to see something (and usually modify something!) about their checkouts, holds, or fines, which are not available/editable when opening from a review file (Note: You can edit basic record fields, but not access checkouts, holds, fines, etc.). This is particularly frustrating when you run a list of patrons with fines and want to go in and waive fines, for example. You can double-click/open the patron…
