Integrate with IMMS for placement information
Intergrating Sierra with IMMS, Sierra does not show the placement information from IMMS on item records. In particular, when the items are stored in chaotic placements such as hold shelves. This means that looking for an item on a hold shelf or other chaotic type location in Sierra, the user has to copy the barcode from Sierra to IMMS to pin point it's known location.
With further integration, it would be great to see placement information in Sierra to assist staff with helping customers find items on hold shelves in particular.

New function to scan items into Sierra to change an Item status to "in transit"
Our branches select which items should be sent to another library for stock rotation. Before items are sent to another branch, staff change the item statuses to "in transit". For various reasons, the branch staff cannot use Mobile Worklist to batch change these items to "in transit". The staff use Circa, but would prefer a Sierra integrated solution.
Why integrate this solution in Sierra:
Circa is aging out. We cannot limit Circa permissions to only change Item status to "in transit".
We want to use the "item status update date" to track when items last moved to a branch.
We…

Need for "Check-in: Do not fulfill holds" function to only apply to current check-in
Libraries have the option to use "Check-in: Do not fulfill holds". This checks in the item without without fulfilling any holds that are in the hold queue for that item. This item will never appear on a Title or Item paging list unless the item is checked in AGAIN. To be eligible to appear on a Title or Item paging list the item must be checked in a second time.
We need an option to release that restriction. The hold should be unfulfilled only during that specific check-in.
Reasons for this:
1) Our transportation system may be stopped due to…

System Option to Disable Transit Slip Printing by Default
In our library, all in-transit items are put into a single bin at the check-in location to be picked up and run through a central sorter which separates them by destination. This workflow doesn't require the use of transit slips, so our staff are trained to choose not to print one when prompted at check-in.
Having to choose "no" at check-in for each item can become onerous when staff are checking in many items, but currently the only alternative is to have the system automatically print a transit slip for every item — which would simply be a waste of…

Automatically email due slips from Express Lane
Do you want all of your patrons to receive due slips by email, every time they check out an item?
Express Lane can be configured to automatically print a due slip, or allow patrons to choose between some combination of print or email due slips with an option to decline, but cannot be configured to automatically send an email due slip with no option to decline.
In our special library, it is desirable to always send email due slips with no option to decline. We want our patrons, who are all employees, to receive this documentation for every loan for…

Paging Queue should recognize changes to the Not Wanted Before Date in Hold record
Sierra queues the hold for paging at the time the hold is placed, based on the data the hold was placed with. If the hold is modified after that (by changing the Not Wanted Before date), those changes don't update the paging queue, and Sierra will continue to page as if the hold had not been modified.

Allow holds on bibs when holdable items are on order
We have a non-holdable lucky day collection whose items are on the same bib as our regular, holdable copies of those titles. Sierra allows patrons to place holds on titles that are on order, but sometimes the non-holdable copies are the first to arrive -- at which point, Sierra sees that all items on the record are non-holdable, and stops allowing holds until the first holdable copies come in.
Innovative recommended splitting nonholdable items onto a separate bib record, which seems liable to clutter up the catalog; moreover, some of these items are likely to be moved into our regular…

Offer the ability to retain a patron's receipt preference at checkout
At checkout, Circulation Staff must ask patrons at the end of each checkout if they want a printed receipt, email receipt, both, or none, or place a pop-up message on their account. It would be great if there were a way to retain each patron's receipt preference so that upon closing out the patron's record, the preferred receipt would be sent, print, both, or no receipt would be given.

New Search Limit for Manage Holds
We're currently dealing with a known issue in Sierra 6.2, where volume holds aren't being added to paging lists. Having discovered it on our end fairly recently, we've asked staff to continue running their paging lists for other items, but use the Manage Holds function to find & fill volume requests.
The problem is that the current search retrieves such a high number of items. And while the search results display counts of the title number of holds, & the total number of bib, volume, & item level holds, you cannot currently limit them & make the Manage Holds report…

Check Out tabs (check out, checked out items, holds, etc): ability to toggle between tabs in Check Out
Technical Services Staff and Circulation Staff often ask for the ability to toggle between tabs in Check Out. We need to reduce repetitive keyboard strokes at checkout and this workflow requires staff to continually reach for the mouse during a circulation transaction.
For example: There is no way to move from the patron check out screen to the patron holds screen without using the mouse to select the corresponding tab.
The Check Out options (check out, checked, out items, holds, fines, check in, linked patrons, bookings etc) could be hardcoded to the drop down menu options so that Administrators could…

Patron Preferred Pronouns
Sierra patron records should include a patron pronouns field, so that library staff can record customers' stated preferred pronouns and use the correct language in conversations and communications with customers. The field should be able to display in the Brief patron display. This step would help to support inclusion, wellbeing, and belonging in libraries.

Show recall info in Manage Holds
When using Manage Holds, information about any recalls that have been issued for items on hold is not displayed.
This information can be found by consulting the item record (right click, "Edit item", then open the item) and checking for a "Recall Date" value, but it would be very helpful for us if this information could be included directly in the Manage Holds results. For example, the "Hold Status" column could include indication of recalls to provide a fuller picture of the situation at a glance.
This idea could be incorporated in work on the following related suggestion:

Preserve notice job sort between edits
Sierra does not preserve any applied sorts after a "Notices Job" Edit dialog is closed. Instead, jobs are re-sorted by job number. This makes it difficult to keep track of which jobs have been reviewed, and generally contributes to unnecessary frustration in the Notices function.
This improvement is related to "Arrange Saved Notice jobs" suggested by Kathy Setter, but instead of applying a custom arrangement I am asking for persistence on a short-term basis:
https://ideas.iii.com/forums/951745-ils-sierra/suggestions/46677958-arrange-saved-notice-jobsRationale:
When making changes to multiple notice jobs at once, it is often necessary to sort notice jobs (e.g., by template, location, or "auto") to…9 votes -
Time to Holdshelf Delay Period Not Reflected in SDA Holds Status
The Time to Holdshelf feature in Sierra is useful in keeping patrons from showing up too early to pick up their holds. As seen in the attachment "Discovery Layer View" – which in our case happens to be BiblioCore – the availability status correctly reflects that the recently checked-in item "Easter Mice!" is not ready for pickup because the item is en route to the pickup location (which in this case is a set of freestanding pickup lockers in a remote area of the county).
However, the holds status as displayed in the SDA incorrectly reports the item as being…

Max Item A-D But For Holds
I had first suggested this over a decade ago when at another library that was struggling how to balance its combination of branch & research library users & the sort of requests they might make. While no longer there, I still see it as a potentially useful means for staff to develop their request processes & create limits within limits.
What I'd like to see is the ability to not only set a hold threshold, but as is the case for the Max Items A-D allowed as applied to checkouts, allow a similar breakdown for holds.
Optimally, this would allow…

More Granularity in Hold Blocks
Currently, the ability to override a hold block is governed by permission 92.
A hold might be blocked for a number of reasons. Staff might attempt to place more than the max number of holds allowed for a customer. They might place a hold for a customer on an item they already have checked out, etc.
One scenario especially has been problematic for as long as I can remember:
A patron finds an item on the shelf & takes it to a service point to check out. It turns out that this item can satisfy a hold placed by another…

Allow libraries to customize return addresses for bills
Our library would like the option to have the return address for bills reflect the address of the patron's home library (as defined in the patron record) rather than the owning location of the item. The current setup (using the owning location of the first item on the bill) means that when patrons check out items sent from another branch to fill a hold, they can receive a bill from a library that they may never have been to. While patrons can visit any of our locations to resolve a bill, we would prefer the bill to reflect their local…

Unfilled Pages Function
Following Disney's lead of recycling years old ideas for theme park attractions, I'd like to see an idea I'd had while working with a former employer brought to fruition in Sierra. We had been using Millennium at the time & the Circ Product Manager had gotten to a point in development that there was a near-working model on III's test environment (I've got screenshots & even a Captivate video somewhere), but I left that employer & the III product manager left III & the idea was abandoned. Sure, it's not as exciting as Disney's announced "Villains Land" or a boat…

New "Booked" status for items scheduled in the Booking Module
Idea: create a new status that references a scheduled booking for an item.
Value: Currently, Sierra does not change the status of an item that has a scheduled booking. When using the API to reflect the status of an item on a catalog, the item will show as status - (On Shelf) even though the item is not available because it has a scheduled booking for that time. This makes it seem as if the item can be scheduled for a specific time when it is already booked. When an item has a booking, changing the status to "Booked" when…
