  1. We would like the ability to select multiple, or a range of entries in the Branches table & be able to edit them in batch. For example, making a list of newly available location codes public, or assigning them a Circulation Address Number would be much easier if we could update dozens of entries at once, rather than one at a time.

It would be nice to see this introduced across multiple tables.

  2. After spending over an hour adding new print templates to every login for a new library, I am once again reminded of the inefficiency of the current methodology for assigning print templates to logins.

Idea: Print Templates can be assigned like Permissions for Sierra. They would have their own sidebar, and logins could be added to each print template. That way, it only takes a couple of clicks to add print templates in mass to several logins, rather than clicking into the login, then settings, then print templates, then scrolling to find each print template and set the prompt. This…

  3. With the new patron checkout limit table, we lost the ability to group itypes into a category if we want to use the other limits like library location. We need to be able to either group itypes in the new patron checkout limit table, or use a combination of the old table and the new. We really need the new library location limiter in the new table so that our ptype 30 can only checkout items at our offsite kiosk and no other library, but we now lose the ability to still group our itypes into categories. Our itypes are…

  4. Similar to the YTDCIRC tracker on item records in Sierra, add a tracker for YTD renewals as well. This would allow collection development staff to quickly assess a more accurate snapshot of an item's usage.

  5. ILL items- In Transit status and print transit slips
We have three branches and our ILL department is located at one of the branches. We would like the ILL module to change the status to "In-Transit" instead of "Ready for Pickup" and print a transit slip when the items are being sent to two other branches.

  6. Building on the recent navigation enhancements that allow users to send Review Files from Create Lists to Rapid Update, Global Update, and Delete Records, we propose adding a "Send to Batch Check-in" option.

Now that Batch Check-in has been integrated into the Sierra client (as of the 6.5 Release), adding this "Send to" functionality would significantly streamline workflows and reduce the risk of errors associated with file handling.

  7. Currently the only way to extend item due dates is to run Rapid Update on a review file of those items. I would like to be able to programmatically update due dates via the API. I see two potential benefits of this feature:

Benefit 1: Rapid Update prompts for a single absolute date to apply to a group of items in a review file. There have been many times when we have wanted to extend the due dates of a group of items by "n days", regardless of their current due date. It would be straightforward to write a Python…

  8. For libraries using floating collections, the system should support automated redirection of duplicate copies at the point of check-in to other branches that do not currently hold a copy of the title.

The system should surface eligible destination branches automatically, eliminating the need for manual title-level analysis by staff.

In multi-branch library systems, the workflow should allow configurable prioritization rules to determine the destination branch when redistributing items.

Prioritization logic could be applied in the following order:
    1) No copy of the title is currently available/on the shelf at the receiving branch
    2) Title (or item if not possible) has…

  9. There are 3 options in the "claim return" workflow at checkin.
    1) Checkin items (with no fines) and change status to missing.
    2) Checkin items (with no fines) and change status to claims returned.
    3) Leave items checked out (send overdue notices) and change status to claims returned.

We always select #2, but we cannot stop staff from accidentally selecting #3. This is troublesome for us because in the #3 workflow customers get an email overdue notice when they have already told the library they have returned the item - and customers can be quite upset about this.

    Is there…

  10. A Sierra feature to allow scanning a Driver’s License to auto-populate customer information for a new account and/or to update an existing account. Automatically inserting a customer's name, date of birth, address, and DL number would result in less typos/mistakes, save considerable staff time when creating or updating an account, and additional staff time in reviewing and fixing errors.

  11. Currently, in order to maintain the out loc field in an item record while it is checked out for libraries with auto-renewal, the actual renewal location statistic group number must be zero. This is frustrating as the zero stat group number does not display in reports and we need all renewals to appear in reports. There needs to be a way to retain the out loc in an item record when the renewal stat group number is not zero.

  12. Sierra SDA allows you to place holds on items with special statuses, and do not show any pop-up window to warn of this circumstance. Currently this is not possible in Sierra for statuses other than 'Library Use Only'.

We would like the system to display a pop-up window when attempting to place a hold on an item with special status, as Sierra SDA does in checkout and checkin procedures.

    Thanks.

  13. When a new library card is created in a month, Sierra auto-populates the expiration date for the card as next month +3 years, but this has to be manually adjusted every month by the Circ supervisor. It would be nice if Sierra could automatically set the expiration date for library cards created every month.

  14. Add a field to ILL records that includes the hold pull date. This information is in the ILL clear hold shelf report, so the system has the information. It does not appear in the ILL record and therefore cannot print on the hold slip. Staff need to manually write the date on each hold slip. Other hold slips, including INN-Reach, print a pull date and ILL holds should be able to have this information added to the record for printing purposes.

  15. Please add the ability to transfer an item-level hold to the bib level. In our system, holds automatically attach to an available item. When the item that has captured the hold is unavailable for some reason (ie. the item has gone missing), there is no easy way to deal with the hold if there isn't another available item. You only see the option to transfer the hold to another specific item. If these are all circulating or unavailable and there is a list of holds at the bib level, you cannot currently transfer that item hold back to the bib…

  16. Description:
Sierra’s “Check Reading History During Homebound Checkout” feature is very helpful, but many homebound materials in our workflow are supplied through holds from other branches. At the hold placement stage, no warning is shown if the patron has previously borrowed the same title, which leads to unnecessary requests and inter-branch transfers.

    Requested enhancement:
Add an option to display a warning when a hold is placed for a homebound patron if their Reading History shows a previous checkout of the same item or another item attached to the same bibliographic record.

    Benefits:
    - Avoids unnecessary item movement
    - Saves staff…

  17. Sierras Homebound Patron Report currently excludes items that are checked in via selfcheck (SIP2). Since almost all check-ins in our libraries are done through selfcheck machines, the report provides an incomplete history and is not usable for tracking items checked in for homebound patrons.

Please update the report logic so that all check-in methods, including selfcheck check-ins, are included. This would ensure accurate reading history and make the module much more useful for libraries that rely on automated check-in workflows.

  18. We will periodically have situations, as we did this morning, where staff move to print their holdshelf report & for one reason or another (today's was some manner of technical issues with their printer), the content of the report is lost.

We can sometimes salvage this data from the back end by looking for holds cleared on the day by the login responsible, but it would be much easier if there were some sort of Recycling Bin style feature, where "cleared" files like the holdshelf report or paging lists were stored until the user logs out, giving them another chance…

  19. Additional options for patron blocks would be amazing and allow additional control for libraries to select what integrated systems or circulation services are available. e.g. Block self-service options in the library (SIP2 or API), however, allow holds to be placed through discovery layers.

The controls don't have to be limited to this. Adding the functions and options to select how these are applied from Sierra, rather than relying on integrated systems to control this would be great.

  20. Problem:

Currently, the "Prioritize Paging Open Locations First" feature and the "Prioritize Hold Fulfillment at the Pickup Location" feature for Title Priority Paging are incompatible. When you have both turned on, pages will skip closed locations and page at an open location, but will not allow the hold to be filled because there is a copy available at the hold pickup location. However, the hold pickup location is not paged for that item since paging skipped that location, so they don't see that patrons are waiting. This causes staff confusion and also impacts how quickly a patron can receive their…
