This would be a huge time-saver for staff cataloging added copies, which are common for children's materials, which are the highest circing items in our consortium.

Agreed - ISBNs are not unique enough in the records that have them and also not present in most bib records for media so the usefulness of this feature is limited as long as that's the only option.
Ideally we'd love to be able to have a choice on which field to use in the import (OCLC number would be great) but if we only have one or two to choose from, bib control number is going to have wider application for our system than ISBN.
