As a new user I agree that RecordID is necessary. As mentioned below, ISBNs are messy data and not required. RecordIDs are unique and easily extractable from SQL.

I have also encountered the need to create record sets with itemrecordID. The specific case was the need to add items that do not have a barcode so there was no way to add from a file since barcode is not required.
