This idea is outside of our agreed upon Idea Graduation Workflow, but because it was just raised in the most recent rount of MEEP voting, I'm going to keep it open for another cycle. Moving to "Under Review" status.

My library discovered this issue because circulation staff mistakenly bulk edited several cataloging fields, that, per our permissions schema, only catalogers can edit. In further testing, I found that bulk edit allows circ staff to edit or delete any field, including mission critical ones that only our catalogers should touch, like call number, loan period, etc. The proposed workaround is to not let circ staff use bulk edit, a feature they currently use on hundreds of items per day when they are weeding, shifting books by branch location, shifting books to different shelf locations, and other tasks. So, the workaround doesn't work for us.

Apologies if I am reading this wrong, but for us, LEAP already does this. We are set to "In Lock Down" after a painful bout with the Wild West. For us, if there is more than one city/county combo associated with a zip, we get a popup -- see attached. It's possible that we added the second city/county combo ourselves - part of our switch to lockdown involved discovering all the valid combos that staff had entered and keeping them. HTH!

I appreciate the comment here about the experience for Acquisitions staff and agree we also won't migrate Acquisitions to LEAP till it's fixed. I'd also like to note the painful experience for circ staff given that "The Women" was a blockbuster for most of 2024 and LEAP can't find it. It's not fun to make patrons wait while you try this and that workaround, explaining that your catalog search doesn't work very well. Since this is a regression from the client and negatively impacts both the staff and patron experience for all LEAP libraries, could we just treat it as a bug and fix it? (Actually not sure why this regression is has been deemed an enhancement. All other client regressions I have ever entered have been fixed as bugs.)
