This functionality is critical for us because it significantly supports readers’ advisory at customer service points and through OPAC. We have been using 655 specifically for that purpose so far. While a workaround has been suggested, using 650 instead of 655, this would require an enormous effort on our part and is not aligned with proper cataloguing practice. LMS should adhere to established standards rather than asking us to repurpose the Subject entry field for Genres.

We are also running into this problem as we prefer patrons to use digital cards and discourage the use of plastic cards. Now that we are moving into Polaris lack of this feature means we have to resort to issuing physical cards as a standard practice. As Alvin pointed out a barcode is generated when self registering so the capability is already there. Considering the number of libraries trying to go cardless it would be great we get this basic feature.
