  1. The ability to bulk change Held Until dates would allow library staff to perform this task themselves in a timely manner, rather than having to submit a ticket to Innovative.

  2. The "Recent" tab in the Leap Workform Tracker lists recently-accessed patron, item, and bibliographic records. Now that additional record types are available in Leap, it would be helpful to have additional record types listed in the "Recent" tab, including but not limited to:InvoicesPurchase OrdersRecord Sets

    Idea Value
The "Recent" tab in the workform tracker is a helpful tool that allows staff to easily reopen records that have been recently closed. Adding additional record types to the recent tab would be helpful for all staff, especially technical services staff that are transitioning to Leap.

  3. Currently item barcodes are not included on the billing notices. We double check the shelves for billed items prior to mailing the bill to the patron. Often we have multiple copies of the item. To ensure that the bill is accurate and the items are truly missing, we have to take the other copies to the circulation desk and double check their status. This is time consuming, inefficient and occurs frequently. Item barcodes are include on the overdue notices. I would like to see them included on the billing notice too.

    Idea Value
This would simplify the workflow, reduce staff…

  4. From time to time, we have need to place all items on a record set on hold to call them in for a specific purpose. It would be great to have the ability to select all or some items within a record set and click a place hold button and then have the option to move the request for each of these items to the top of queue.

    Idea Value
This would make functions so much faster and easier. For example, right now, I need to place item level holds on a couple dozen checked out items to inspect them…

  5. In Leap relabel the current submit Close button to Receipt. Add an additional button next to it called Close that that would close the record check out the material but would not generate a paper receipt print dialog box etc.

    Idea Value
This would save paper for those libraries that have suppressed the print dialog box in their browsers for Leap and patrons that did not want a paper receipt.

  6. Provide aggregate circulation data and status by branch and item record. Previously this information was available on the Preview screen of the desktop client. Desired information by branch: Number of items, Number of holds, Year-to-date circulation, Previous year-to-date circulation, Lifetime circulation, Year-to-date in-house use, Previous year-to-date in-house use, Lifetime in-house use. Desired information by item: Assigned Branch, Collection, First available date, Year-to-date circulation, Previous year-to-date circulation, Lifetime circulation, Year-to-date in-house use, Previous year-to-date in-house use, Lifetime in-house use, Shelf location, Volume information, Current Circulation Status, Barcode, Last activity Date. This information should be sortable by any field.

  7. Add more (optional) Holds Request to Fill Routing Sequence tables.

    Idea Value
As libraries work together more and more in order to provide the best possible services, it's important that Polaris provide needed flexibility in holds routing. This is especially important for consortia (many of which are growing as independent libraries experience budget crunches and are looking for efficiencies). The current primary/secondary RTF and different grouping options are good, but insufficient as material delivery challenges make moving holds across libraries more costly/difficult (especially if there are large areas involved).

  8. In Polaris staff have the ability to tap ENTER to close a check out. In Leap, staff must select COMPLETE with the mouse to close the transaction.

    Idea Value
Polaris users have become acustomed to using ENTER to finish a check out so having to select COMPLETE is awkward and takes extra steps involving the mouse.

  9. Adding a icon/button within the Patron Status "Items Out" view which would send an email to the email address on file for the patron which lists all items currently checked out and their due date.

    Idea Value
There is already a print icon/button on the Patron Status "Items Out" view which can be used to print the list of items out and their due date. Adding an email icon/button would allow patrons to receive this list easily via email when they come to the desk and ask staff for a list of the items checked out.

  10. This might be a little specific, but I am proposing that the item due date should be stored as part of the check-in transaction in the Transactions Database in SQL.

    Idea Value
This seems like a relatively small change to the SQL tables, but it would allow some information to be more easily gathered. For instance, I recently received a question where I was trying to determine if there's any trend in what triggers the return of overdue material (e.g. first/second notice, the bill, or collections). If the due date was included in the check-in transaction, I think I would…

  11. We'd like to have the ability to change hold pickup duration based on material type. Many libraries are now offering Library-of-Things types of collections, as are several of ours. And they'd like to make it so you could put a hold on a LoT item, but you need to come get it in 24 hours, or 48 hours. Not in seven days or five days as set by an overarching system parameter that governs all the holds.

We already have material type specific parameters for fine codes and loan periods. The inability to adjust hold related parameters seems like a…

  12. Optionally prevent renewals from going through the same day an item is checked out (applied to items with loan periods of more than 1 day).

    Idea Value
Increasingly libraries are using self-checkouts and RFID circulation stations. Both patrons and staff members can unintentionally rescan items that have just been checked out, using up one or more renewal, just by having the items too near the scanner pad. This would prevent accidents that use up available renewals and lead to confused patrons and staff!

  13. We would like an optional field in the patron record for preferred pronouns. This field should be available at the top of all patron registration views near Last name, First name, Title etc. It should be available to display on the Patron Status and Check-out screens via System Administration under Parameters, Patron Services, Check-out: Optional patron data. We would also like to be able to display it on phone notices, but not mailers.

    Idea Value
As our libraries strive to be more inclusive, we would like a way to record the patron's preference other than using a note field which…

  14. We circulate culture passes (e.g. admission to local museums, the zoo, etc.) that don't need to be returned. I've created some queries to easily identify the items that are due so that staff can check them in. It would be nice to have a setting that would automatically check the items in on their due date so that manual steps don't need to happen. We check the items out for statistical purposes and because we want to limit how many passes are checked out to a patron at a given time.

    Idea Value
This enhancement would benefit circulation staff who…

  15. With the change from ASPX to JSON in Leap 6.7 there is no longer any way to add a message or links to the Leap Login page. Previously we would add links to our ADSelfService so Users could update their expired AD password or unlock their account. It would also be nice to be able to post a message if there are planned events that Users might need to know.

    Idea Value
This would return/restore the flexibility we had prior to the 6.7 Leap upgrade.

  16. Currently, a library may limit an item to be holdable for pickup at a single branch location. This setting allows the item to be limited to pick up at the item's assigned branch only. While this feature may work for single-branch libraries, it does not function in a practical way for multi-branch libraries. Expanding this feature to have a library-level option would increase the usability of this setting.

Example 1: Library A has 3 branches. They want to make their mobile hotspots holdable for pickup at any of their 3 branches. They do not want their hotspots to be placed…

  17. We would like Polaris to transition items with a Circulation Status of Claim Returned and Claim Never Had to Withdrawn after a specified number of days. We envision this working like Lost Item Transition and the Missing Item Transition.

    Idea Value
Adding this feature would allow a library to automatically remove items from patron view and allow for a more streamline process for deleting item records.

  18. When our library switched to Polaris a couple of years ago - we were baffled enough by the absence of a standard advanced search, to add it ourselves. You can find the idea demonstrated in the below or attached clip.

    https://youtu.be/rMDTE1kUD2c

There was no formal push for this option, but it was quickly adopted by most of our staff through word of mouth. Which I took as evidence that the current search was a common source of frustration.

    Idea Value
An advanced search allows for quickly scoped searches, in a standard format that most library staff will be familiar with…

  19. : In its current configuration, a "display" shelf location can be used to indicate an item has been placed on display. However, changing this shelf location is a semi-permanent change and when the display comes down staff must change the location codes, either manually or through a record set, to the original location. Because displays are often very popular, this often results in items being checked out and returned. Without markings on the books that indicate they're on a temporary display, these items are often reshelved in their original location while their Polaris record indicates they're still on display, hindering…

  20. Currently, outbound Telephony places a call to patrons that a hold is available almost instantaneously after the item has been checked in and moved to a Held status. For some of our larger libraries, the checked in material may not be available for pickup for 2-3 hours - but they have patrons who are coming to the desk expecting to be able to pick up their item right away because they received that instantaneous call. (sometimes the patrons are in the building, get the call, and simply walk downstairs to the hold shelves)

It would help avoid stress for staff…
