Add "Date" (Publication Date) to initial search facet
Our patrons want to be able to search for new-release titles on the Vega homepage. This is faster than doing a wildcard search and limiting by date-range.

Yes, we are aware of the other options. And why wouldn't "Date" make sense? It's unlikely our patrons will do a wildcard search and sort by Newest Publication Date. If Title, Concept, or Author are not known and a patron wants to see everything the library holds that has been published in 2023, it would be nice to have it on the list of indices.

Hi Chad,
The All, Title, Author, Concept dropdown is a list of indices. All searches all indexed content. Title searches only titles, etc. Date wouldn't make much sense here. Are you aware of the Sort option for Date (newest) and Date (oldest)? Is this perhaps what you are looking for? Please see my screenshot from your catalog of search results sorted by Newest Publication Date.
Best,

Hi Samantha, the date "sort" or facet would be added to the dropdown on the Vega homepage (All, Title, Author, Concept, Date). See the screenshot that I added to the idea.

Hi Chad we have multiple ways of doing this currently in Vega. Can I get some more information about what exactly you are requesting?
Currently we support both a Date Facet which you imply is slow but does allow patrons to filter any search to materials in a specific YEAR of publication. A librarian could also use this facet to create a Saved Search to link patrons to new materials from this year or a Showcase to place on the home page of such items.
Additionally assuming your library uses either The Polaris First Availability Date or the Sierra Cat Date to mark new materials patrons can sort searches by New Materials, Filter search results by New Materials (the week, this month, this quarter, this year). A librarian can also use this sorting and facet to create Saved Searches to link patrons to new materials or create showcases to place on the home page of these items.
If you can clarify how you want us to add date to the initial search in a different way that would help me better understand your request.
