Holds on items with volume control
In the PAC, when the volume field had an entry for one item on a bib record, all items would still show up for the patron to choose from. However, in Vega Discover, it will appear that all items are available to place a hold on, but once the user starts the hold request process, ONLY the item(s) with a filled volume field is given as an option to choose from. This has caused a substantial increase in broken holds and a holds bottleneck, as records with filled volume fields supersede records with unfilled volume fields when holds are placed.
We are managing these bottlenecks and broken holds with an SQL script, but that requires manually correcting the volume control and transferring the holds to the bib record level rather than the item record level. This is about 600-700 items each month, taking an average of 3 minutes for each to fix.
When volume control is present, all items should still be available to choose from, rather than just the ones with information in the volume field.
