  1. Add more (optional) Holds Request to Fill Routing Sequence tables.

    Idea Value
As libraries work together more and more in order to provide the best possible services, it's important that Polaris provide needed flexibility in holds routing. This is especially important for consortia (many of which are growing as independent libraries experience budget crunches and are looking for efficiencies). The current primary/secondary RTF and different grouping options are good, but insufficient as material delivery challenges make moving holds across libraries more costly/difficult (especially if there are large areas involved).

  2. When our library switched to Polaris a couple of years ago - we were baffled enough by the absence of a standard advanced search, to add it ourselves. You can find the idea demonstrated in the below or attached clip.

    https://youtu.be/rMDTE1kUD2c

There was no formal push for this option, but it was quickly adopted by most of our staff through word of mouth. Which I took as evidence that the current search was a common source of frustration.

    Idea Value
An advanced search allows for quickly scoped searches, in a standard format that most library staff will be familiar with…

  3. When conducting a PowerPAC search using the "limit by" feature to select one's home library and combining that with the "available now" facet, the implication is that only the items at one's home library will show up. That is not the case, as available items at all consortium libraries display in the results. Although it is possible to achieve the desired results by selecting the local library under the "assigned branch" facet, this is not very intuitive for library patrons.

We would like to see the "available now" facet in PowerPAC split into two options for libraries in consortiums. One…

  4. When placing a hold request, if there are other people on hold for the same title, you get a "warning" message. We'd like the option to eliminate this message and allow someone to place the hold request without going through this step.

    Idea Value
Each step of a "checkout" process can deter people from completing the task. The Baymard Institute shows that 21% abandon checking out because the process is "too long / complicated checkout process". This extra page can also scare people from placing a hold because if they see 900 people are "ahead" of them, they may never…

  5. Add granular permissions for the use of the Web Admin /Language Editor tabs. Ideally, each tab in the language editor should have its own permissions sets.

Language Tools tab permissions for "Access, Edit, Add, Import, Export".

PAC Tools tab permissions for "Access, Reload, Compile CSS, Identify Strings"

PAPI Key Management tab permissions for "Access, Generate, Edit, Delete"

    Idea Value
At this time there is just the one permission to access and use the Web Admin / Language Editor. Specifically the permission is the following:

    Permission Name: Allow
    Control Record Name: WebAdmin Access
    Subsystem: System Administration
    Organization: Not Applicable
    Level: System

  6. Provide aggregate circulation data and status by branch and item record. Previously this information was available on the Preview screen of the desktop client. Desired information by branch: Number of items, Number of holds, Year-to-date circulation, Previous year-to-date circulation, Lifetime circulation, Year-to-date in-house use, Previous year-to-date in-house use, Lifetime in-house use. Desired information by item: Assigned Branch, Collection, First available date, Year-to-date circulation, Previous year-to-date circulation, Lifetime circulation, Year-to-date in-house use, Previous year-to-date in-house use, Lifetime in-house use, Shelf location, Volume information, Current Circulation Status, Barcode, Last activity Date. This information should be sortable by any field.

    Idea Value
    These…

  7. Currently, when a patron changes their password via the OPAC (change logon > change password), no notification is made to the customer nor is the modification date in the patron registration record updated.

I would like to see an email/SMS notification be issued to the customer when a password is changed via this method as well as have the modification date updated.

    Idea Value
These updates would provide better security for the library customer by communicating a system change that they may or may not have made themselves.

These updates would also make it easier for library staff to investigate…

  8. The availability facet in the PAC dashboard does not accurately reflect the status of Overdrive titles. The facet may show that the title is available even though in the results it says that zero of NN copies are available. This is more likely to impact consortia or locations with multiple vendor accounts.

For III reference, this is supportal ticket #576351

    Idea Value
It is frustrating for the patron to select to filter by available items and then see clearly in their list of results that the Overdrive items aren't available.

Because the Available Now facet is hardcoded, we have no…

  9. Overhaul the Did You Mean process to offer not just suggestions from a standard dictionary of terms, but directed from the results that would be produced in the catalog. Separated from previous Did You Mean? idea ticket.

    Idea Value
This will allow for customers when selecting a Did You Mean? suggested term to always receive results instead of odd results or no results. It is understood that this could require significant re-architecture and would likely be a large project that should be considered separate from the other two previously submitted Did You Mean enhancements in https://idealab.iii.com/alwaysopen-polaris/Page/ViewIdea?ideaid=21486.

    Example: if you…

  10. The staff member Find tool in the client is very limited, making it difficult to find users without using SQL. For instance, there's no option to search by their Organization or Associated Branch, or by whether they have a Suspended account. It would also be useful to include these details as result columns, as well as details like "Last Login Date" (or include this under the account properties).

    Idea Value
Today it's difficult for most of our users that need to search for staff at their library, or who have not logged in for 6 months, to do so without…

  11. This might be a little specific, but I am proposing that the item due date should be stored as part of the check-in transaction in the Transactions Database in SQL.

    Idea Value
This seems like a relatively small change to the SQL tables, but it would allow some information to be more easily gathered. For instance, I recently received a question where I was trying to determine if there's any trend in what triggers the return of overdue material (e.g. first/second notice, the bill, or collections). If the due date was included in the check-in transaction, I think I would…

  13. Since the upgrade to 6.3, cover image art now appears in the patron account pages. This is a nuisance to a number of patrons, who are more satisfied with the previous compact view. We'd love to see either

    1. a system-wide option to enable or disable cover images in the Account pages in SA

    OR

    1. a toggle for patrons in their account to enable or disable images.

This is heavily borrowed from a previous idea: https://idealab.iii.com/alwaysopen-polaris/Page/ViewIdea?ideaid=8171

    Idea Value
Less scrolling and more power/control put into the hands of the patron to have the my account area function as they would like…

  14. Simplify the Overdrive integration to eliminate the use of item records, while retaining hold, checkout, patron account sync functionality. This would speed up Overdrive imports and syncs for customers with large collections and remove inaccurate statistics from reports.

    Idea Value
When Overdrive integration was developed, having one central source for statistics of physical and digital material was an end goal and integration at the item level was developed. Several years later, econtent collections have ballooned in size and the deep integration has led to lengthy import and sync processes.

Additionally, Overdrive authentication procedures result in inaccurate econtent statistics as some…

  15. We would like our patrons to see how much they have saved YTD and Lifetime when logged into their account in the PowerPac. Also having it be information that can be passed through API. I imagine this could be something we would be able to turn on and off same as the You Saved receipts.

    Idea Value
Currently we compose an email to each of our patrons every year to let them know how much they have saved and they enjoy the email. We are looking to have it more streamlined and patrons can see this at any time by…

  16. With the change from ASPX to JSON in Leap 6.7 there is no longer any way to add a message or links to the Leap Login page. Previously we would add links to our ADSelfService so Users could update their expired AD password or unlock their account. It would also be nice to be able to post a message if there are planned events that Users might need to know.

    Idea Value
This would return/restore the flexibility we had prior to the 6.7 Leap upgrade.
