Custom Short Codes for SMS Delivery
Branding is increasingly important for public libraries. So too is the reliable receipt of our communications & the distinction, in the patron's mind, between library communications & spam they might receive.
Vega Interact SMS currently sends its text messages from the short code number 60896. We would like an option for a custom number of our own choosing to facilitate the promotion of this service & more easily identify these messages as coming from our library.
For example the short code of 246295 can be used to spell out CINCYL. The short code of 26657 can be used to spell out BOOKS, etc. It's much more user friendly to tell our users to expect their texts from a number that spells out CINCYL on their phone's keypad, than something less memorable. A short code that spells out something meaningful to our users or helps immediately identify the library as the sender is much easier to promote.
We've done something along these lines for the number used for our instance of Vega Interact Voice for dial in & dial out, which spells out 513-LIBRARY, where 513 is Cincinnati's area code.
