I received the following from a school superintendent in our service area, and I think this would be a beneficial enhancement to Vega for students and school staff:

We store the Lexile level in our local student information system. This means that pretty easily, we could show the parents their kid's level, then link to the two local library districts with some instructions on how to filter and search. But as I shared, they still have to do a lot of clicking to get to that screen where they can filter on level and subject.

So what would the ideal feature look like? The ability to link directly to this browse feature from our student information system.

...will take you directly to our Oregon library, filtered by the juvenile audience, with a keyword of spy, and only books that are on the shelf at this location. Fantastic. What I cannot do is apply a filter inside this URL that will limit the search by Lexile range or Accelerated Reader level.

This would remove the last possible barrier to matching kids to text. We already know the reading level, the parents can know the scores, everyone in our district gets a free library card, all of that. Once they click this link, they could choose a keyword or a genre or a media type, and check it out.

The texts have already been leveled, and the values are in the database. It almost acts like this Syndetics Unbound is a plugin or extension that enhances the PrairieCat featureset, but because it's not native to the application, it's not as tightly integrated as it could be.
