This is the exact reason we have and will likely continue to hold off on making the switch. Unwieldy from a staff process standpoint and not tenable for customers who borrow items or receive holds from multiple locations.

Our patrons have complained about this also. The feedback we have received is having the shelf location appear at all times - even when all copies are out - would make browsing for similar items much easier.

Now that the ability to search by call number has been released, this is an especially important function to have available for both staff and library patrons.
We have many patrons who continue to use the classic WebPAC in order to shelf-browse nearby items as its search results can display items sorted by call number. Would be immensely valuable were such sorting available as an option in Discover.
