During discussion of the need for this function, we identified that the improvements for WCCLS ILL Borrowing would include
• Time savings for ILL staff: all borrowed items could go into one tasket or cart after processing. No need to separate batches into 15+ different destination stacks.
• Space savings for ILL staff: fewer carts and taskets needed at one’s desk if we don’t have to separate borrowed items into 15+ different destination stacks.
• Simplified process for Materials Movement staff: ILLs could run over the AMH table along with all other items instead of requiring a separate trip to handle the cart and manually placing items in holds taskets.
• Improved accuracy: avoids human error of ILLs being placed in the wrong library’s tasket; avoids library staff having to re-route misdirected items; less opportunity for loss or damage.
• Improved turnaround time to patron: avoids delays of misdirected items; avoids items being processed for return without ever having gotten to the patron’s pickup library.

We would also very much like to be able to check in ILL items with holds via SIP. For our workflow we'd like to be able to check them in upstream of where Thomas describes - we want to be able to put them into "In transit" status via our AMH. We have recently transitioned to centralized ILL handling for our whole system (we use OCLC and Polaris, not INNReach). Because of RFID interoperability, we are frequently able to use an item's existing barcode/RFID tag when circulating it in our system. It would be a huge staff, time, and space savings for us if we could also then scan these via our automated sorter instead of having staff manually scan each item at their desk, which is the current workflow required by Polaris settings.
