Support EAN/IAN-codes for cover images
As a library outside of USA and Canada we don´t get any cover images for Video games and DVDs in Vega.
The reason looks to be very simple. Vega has seemingly been coded to only look for the local North American UPC-code standard stored in MARC field i024 1_ $a.
Most of the rest of the world (we in Sweden included) use the EAN/IAN-code standard and those codes are stored in i024 3_ $a.
So the data is stored right there in our records and Syndetics also has the EAN-codes in their database. But the connection is never made in VEGA. It worked without any problems in Encore.
Since Vega is marketed as a global product, we took for granted that EAN would be supported too. It’s a bit frustrating that´s not the case. Our users notice when cover images are missing – it affects how things look and feel when browsing for popular media like games and DVDs.
As we see it, the obvious solution would be to let Vega map against i024 regardless of what comes after.
