  1. Patrons should have the option to set a default filters from their account so anytime they search while logged it, they do not have to see unrelated content. This is especially true now that Hoopla records can appear as there are many patrons who only want print and are unable to find the items they're looking for because they're buried beneath three DVDs and twelve eBooks.

  2. In the new Vega Discover Account Portal launched this month, the Checkouts & Requests > Holds Requests area shows when a hold is Ready for Pickup, but can it display when the hold expires, e.g. when the item will be taken off the holds shelf? I realize the hold length is determined by our local policy, but can the calculation be done in Vega that this item was put on hold on X date, so "Pickup Expires" date could be X+7 days?

  3. The temporarily rolled out update still showed being able to sort bookmarked lists by ascending or descending Title and Date, which appeared to be publication date only, not when the patron added it to the list. The original iteration allowed this type of sorting, which was helpful for letting patrons have some kind of control over sorting their lists in their own arbitrary way, for example how soon they wanted to get to a particular title from their list, without having to scroll through the alphabet of titles or know when it was published.

Like the preference to be able…

  5. As a library outside of USA and Canada we don´t get any cover images for Video games and DVDs in Vega.
The reason looks to be very simple. Vega has seemingly been coded to only look for the local North American UPC-code standard stored in MARC field i024 1_ $a.
Most of the rest of the world (we in Sweden included) use the EAN/IAN-code standard and those codes are stored in i024 3_ $a.

So the data is stored right there in our records and Syndetics also has the EAN-codes in their database. But the connection is never made in…

  6. We would like to be able to limit the number of items that show up in the "More in this series" section. In some cases we have 100+ items in this section that forces the patron to scroll for a long time to pass it, and increases slowness when loading the record. It would be great to have an option to limit this section to a couple of rows, and only see the full list when clicking the "See full series" link.

  7. When looking at the customer account view, the holds list is only showing the holds pickup location and is missing the holds pickup area. We would like to include the pickup area to be listed so that the customer will know where to pick up the item.

  8. For titles with both a $a title and a $b subtitle. If the $a is an exact match for a search query that title should also be considered an exact match and boosted in the same way to the top of the search results.

  9. Don't require mandatory punctuation in a search string to improve search results. For example, there are authors with hyphenated last names (authorized heading). If a customer searches these authors without a hyphen, Vega does not display results. Vega requires the hyphen to be present to display results by this author.

  10. Movies need to have clearer display of the actors, director, etc. when you go into the item record. Some movies have been remade and I currently have a lot of trouble locating the right movie for my patron when they tell me the year it was made and I can't even find that in the item record because it only tells me when that disc edition was made not when the movie itself was first made. I'll also get patrons who give me a title where there are several movies with that title and I currently can't even find a…

  11. Discover should be able to handle a numerical comma in a title. We received a patron complaint that they couldn't find the title 20,000 Leagues under the sea. They were searching (correctly) with the comma in "20,000" (see this search: https://ada-lynx.na3.iiivega.com/search?query=20,000%20leagues%20under%20the%20sea&searchType=everything&pageSize=10). When searched as "20000", all the results properly come up (see https://ada-lynx.na3.iiivega.com/search?query=20000%20leagues%20under%20the%20sea&searchType=everything&pageSize=10). This is very difficult to explain to both the public and to the staff when our old PAC gives results to that without issue.

  12. Our customers don't think the 'i' information icon is a clickable thing. They think it just looks like a static image and assume there's no further information.

We'd like to see the icon changed to something that looks more like a button or link.

  13. We would like a way to show on the search page when an item is a In Library Use Only status. Right now, ours just says everything is available with no search button which can cause confusion for patrons. We want people to find these items so they know we have them, but to make it clear when looking at a search that they will have to come into the library to use it.

  15. When doing a title search, search results that have the search term in the title should have a higher relevancy than those that have the search term in the subtitle.

For example, when doing a title search for "thriller" in our catalog, two of the first three results have thriller in the title. You have scroll through over a hundred more search results before you find another item titled "Thrillers" and another page of results before you find another result specifically titled "Thriller" The rest of the results have thriller in the subtitle.

If there is an exact title match…

We have made updates to relevancy for exact title matches. When I search 'thrillers' in your catalog the title, "Thrillers:100 must-reads" is number 2. https://danbu.na4.iiivega.com/search?query=thrillers&searchType=everything&pageSize=10

When you search 'thriller' instead of the exact title you are introducing stemming into the equation so the title with the added s on the end which is what you're hoping to find in this case is lower in the results because it is not as relevant as the many pages of titles with 'thriller' in the title instead of 'thrillers'.

  16. With the Hoopla integration turned on, Hoopla records don't roll up with everything else (it looks like it's because the ingested records have the author as First Name Last Name instead of Last Name, First Name).

If we get an API ingested record for a Hoopla item we already have a MARC record for, we end up with a duplicate in Vega.

  18. Patrons using laptops with smaller display resolutions are finding the limited height of the account display frustrating, as they can only see one item at a time and scrolling via touchpad can be difficult. Many have asked if an option to extend the display to cover the full height of the screen could be made available.

  20. We would like to see the subfield q of the 020 field displayed next to the ISBN so users can tell which material types are included in a record. This was visible in the old PAC within the Full Display view (attached).
