  2. Searching by call# has always been available to staff and patrons and though we've only been live a short few days, staff have already experienced the need to search by call# (a patron brought a call# to staff and staff had to go into Sierra to find the title they were referencing). Our call#s are stored in the item records and we would like to be able to search by call#.

  3. Vega Homepage Layouts are an excellent way to communicate with our patrons based on spotlighting showcases, new collections, as well as upcoming programs.

Although this takes a lot of manual intervention whenever a change needs to be made. We'd love the ability to schedule Vega Homepage layouts for future months. Example: Saving Monthly Vega Showcases based on our libraries future focused campaigns (Summer reading, poetry month, heritage months, etc.).

  6. Discover should be able to handle a numerical comma in a title. We received a patron complaint that they couldn't find the title 20,000 Leagues under the sea. They were searching (correctly) with the comma in "20,000" (see this search: https://ada-lynx.na3.iiivega.com/search?query=20,000%20leagues%20under%20the%20sea&searchType=everything&pageSize=10). When searched as "20000", all the results properly come up (see https://ada-lynx.na3.iiivega.com/search?query=20000%20leagues%20under%20the%20sea&searchType=everything&pageSize=10). This is very difficult to explain to both the public and to the staff when our old PAC gives results to that without issue.

  7. When doing a title search, search results that have the search term in the title should have a higher relevancy than those that have the search term in the subtitle.

For example, when doing a title search for "thriller" in our catalog, two of the first three results have thriller in the title. You have scroll through over a hundred more search results before you find another item titled "Thrillers" and another page of results before you find another result specifically titled "Thriller" The rest of the results have thriller in the subtitle.

If there is an exact title match…

We have made updates to relevancy for exact title matches. When I search 'thrillers' in your catalog the title, "Thrillers:100 must-reads" is number 2. https://danbu.na4.iiivega.com/search?query=thrillers&searchType=everything&pageSize=10

When you search 'thriller' instead of the exact title you are introducing stemming into the equation so the title with the added s on the end which is what you're hoping to find in this case is lower in the results because it is not as relevant as the many pages of titles with 'thriller' in the title instead of 'thrillers'.

  8. Magazines borrowed directly from Overdrive show the confusing resource for title result instead of the magazine issue itself. An extra step of Get Issue is required to show the issue. This appears to be covered under the Vega Product portal - Overdrive Magazines. However that is listed under the Later category. Monarch is asking if this could be expedited due to the confusion it is causing to staff and patrons.

  9. Patrons are not finding the latest popular titles. patrons want to searc forJohn Grisham and immediately see the most "currently" relevant title- the one everyone is looking for, the one people are talking about and want to get their name on. Maybe it isnt even published. In Encore this is the first title you see, in Vega you wont find it for a bit.

Relevancy must consider date of publication over the number of copies.

  10. In a large consortia the locations with smaller collections are not showing up. Only 40 sites show. This means the large libraries with more content are always displayed, and the big sites always get top billing. Our little librarys deserve the same exposure (maybe more). In the location facet all libraries should be listed if the result set includes content from their collections. Locations should be listed alphabetically and not by the number of items in the set.

  11. Some Syndetics content links out to the main Vega collection instead of the collection that is currently being searched. For Consortia this will create patron issues since each member has their own collection.

  12. Most patrons probably don't add apostrophes when searching (some do, some don't). We suggest it be taken out as a variable effecting the search results in basic search. In advanced search it can be included exactly as typed, but for the basic search it may do more harm than good. Please see the attached examples.

  13. We have our call#s in the item records and each Branch library uses the same call#. Patrons and staff are struggling to find the call#s and want them displayed in the results list for every title where available. It is time consuming to do the extra clicks to view a call number!

  14. 600 Subject added entry - personal name headings are currently displaying as Contributors/Persons. This is making it difficult to find additional resources ABOUT a person. When the person appears in the Subject field, they are not really a contributor, they are the Subject. Displaying these headings as Contributors is confusing. I believe this is on the roadmap but it would be nice to see this addressed sooner than later.

  16. Allow patrons to "select all" to renew all eligible items from their checkout screen. Patrons with multiple items (sometimes 40 or more) have to select each individual item to renew. A "renew all" or "select all" feature would be helpful.

  17. StackMap is an indoor mapping web application that helps patrons easily locate library resources including material, subjects wayfinding, rooms and public PCs in real-time. At this time, VEGA does not seem to support this application, but it does work in the default Polaris catalog.

Vega Discover Premium and Consortia versions support an integration with StackMap, an indoor mapping web application that helps patrons easily locate library resources.

Vega Discover Premium and Consortia libraries can reach out to support@stackmap.com to request the required script to embed into their custom header code.

Please reach out to your Account Manager if you would like to know more about Discover Premium or Discover Consortia.

  19. Okay. Let me preface this by saying this does sound odd... although it's regular occurrence on popular material such as mobile hotspots. On the classic PAC (Polaris) if a patron has an item already checked out they can still place a hold on that same item. On Vega if a patron tries to do this it will only try to renew it.

BUT if the patron logs out of their Vega account. Searches for the material. Clicks place hold. It will then allow them to make that hold on the identical item.

Can we just make it possible for a…

  20. Don't require mandatory punctuation in a search string to improve search results. For example, there are authors with hyphenated last names (authorized heading). If a customer searches these authors without a hyphen, Vega does not display results. Vega requires the hyphen to be present to display results by this author.
