Navigation Between Collection Sites
Libraries with multiple collection sites want patrons to move easily from one site to another. For example, moving from the Local History Collection site to the main site, or from the Main site to the Kid's Catalog. In a consortium, patrons often want to check neighboring libraries to see if an item is available on the shelf. The current passthrough search works well for moving from a collection site to the full catalog, but it does not work for moving between multiple collection sites. With limited space in the header and links bar, another way of navigating to the collection sites would be helpful. A dropdown menu that individual collection sites can configure would be a great addition to Vega.

This would be great for libraries transitioning from the Polaris PAC, since it essentially mirrors a feature the PAC had that is not available in Discover.

We are a part of a consortium that allows our patrons to visit and check out books from over 50 member libraries throughout the County. Refining the navigation between collection sites would improve the entire Vega search experience for both patrons and staff. Patrons often want to check the availability of a particular title from a neighboring library that they’re willing to drive to, if our copies are checked out. In the pre-Vega system, a quick drop-down menu allowed them to select the exact library they wanted to search without having to comb through holdings of the entire County. It would also benefit the search experience to have the passthrough searches retain the search query and perform it in the collection site you select instead of having to re-enter the search terms.
