Item template use in Leap
Currently in Leap (we're on 7.8), in order to take full advantage of an item template, you have to click on Actions--Create Item (within the bib record), then add your barcode & select the template you want to use, and then click Save. If you don't click on Save, the template only populates some of the template information. It doesn't change any of the call number fields or the number of renewals, even when the option to use template values is checked.
This is existing functionality in the Polaris toolbar client, and should be in Leap as well. (See attached document.) As version 8.0 is supposed to have everything from the toolbar in it, I don't know if this is already on the 8.0 roadmap, but I didn't see it mentioned.
This affects staff generating spine labels from newly created items in particular. Since Leap requires you to save the item before fully applying the template, the label sent to the printer is incomplete and staff have to then make their changes to the item record, resave the item, and resend the label with the full call number back to the queue. They also have to clean out the incomplete spine labels from the queue before they're able to print.
