Hi @D. Letterman. That option will only delete the subfield with the exact data but each electronic resource title will have a different ID as part of the URL so with your option, you can only delete one at a time. The idea is to be able to delete all the URLs that have a specific library/vendor identifying data either in 856 subfield u or subfield z regardless of what the rest of the URL contains so we can delete them from multiple bib records at once.

If I'm understanding your request correctly, if you are able to isolate all the records that you want to change into a record set, AND there is only the one field that needs changing (i.e. not two 856 fields with different data) then you should be able to do this via a bulk change using the client. You'll need to add all the subfields and their data individually in order to remove the entire field - see the attached image.

I'm not aware of a way to delete duplicate fields, other than to do a bulk change to delete a specific field (which would delete the field and any duplicates) and then add the field back in - where it would appear only once. Though you'd need to be mindful of punctuation or spaces which might not be picked up in your bulk change request.

This would be very useful. I have to export bib records and edit them in MarcEdit on a regular basis.

The deletion of a first or last instance of a field tag is very rarely of any use. Being able to specify exactly which instance of a field we want to delete/edit/etc. is an important function that those of us who worked with Millennium or Sierra have been missing since moving to Polaris.

Our only options in Polaris are to either work one record at a time, which is extremely time-consuming, or to export records, edit them in a tool like MARC Edit and then re-import, which is also very time-consuming.

Currently, bib bulk change does not allow deleting fields with specific data or deleting duplicate fields. For example, we can only delete the first instance, last instance or all instances of a MARC tag but we cannot delete a tag that contains specific data. This means in our consortium when weeding electronic resources like Kanopy for one library and not the others, we cannot tell Polaris to delete the 856s that contain one library’s URL and not the 856s for other libraries. We have to export the records out of Polaris, use MarcEdit to delete the 856 for the library then reload the records back to Polaris.
We also cannot delete tags with duplicate data in bulk edit but have to delete the field from one record at a time or export to MarcEdit, delete the field then reload the records. For example, when records are merged, some fields like the 996 we use for our custom TOM are merged onto the new record, so we end up with duplicates.

It will be helpful if Bib Bulk change included the ability to delete a tag containing specific data and ability to delete duplicate fields.
