  1. In Leap, after doing a search for record sets (ie. owned by a specific owner), you have to go into the record set in order to delete it. After doing this, it bumps you all the way back out of the Find Tool and the user has to redo the search completely. This is not ideal when attempting to clean up multiple record sets. Ideally there would be the ability to select multiple record sets and do a bulk delete (similar to how you can in the desktop client). Barring that, being bumped back to the search results would at…

  2. Similar to the change in 7.6 for Item Changes, it would be beneficial to be able to make the ad hoc changes to patron records. Our libraries could easily change their Juvenile patrons to Adult patrons using the Find tool.

  3. I would like to upload images for an item record. We are attempting to build our Library of Things and these items don't have photos tied to the item record.

  5. The edition statement should be added to the results list in the find tool and the duplicate detection results. The edition statement is already visible to patrons in the brief display of the records in the results list in the PowerPAC. When staff need to search by title or deduplicate records, they need to look at each record to identify the record for the correct edition. If the edition statement were added to the table that displays the results, they could identify the correct records in a more efficient manner.

  6. We receive vendor records with file extensions .FIL and .001. We are able to import these in the Client but are not able to import them in Leap.

  7. We would like the ability to made Collection a required field when adding item records. While we can instruct all of our members to have Collections selected as part of their templates, there is still the possibility of forgetting and having items that are missing a collection. Having a collection at minimum, and ideally collection and shelf location combination set on each item greatly helps wayfinding for the patrons, and we'd like Polaris to allow us to enforce selection of at least a Collection. Other customers may want to enforce selection of both Collection and Shelf Location. As long as…

  9. This undo function would provide the ability to separate two records that were accidentally combined so they go back to being attached to their original, individual POs, have their original items attached, and have their original hold lists attached.

Example: If a regular print record and a large print record for a title with a list of holds on each were accidentally combined, catalogers would have to split the large print items out by creating a second record and move the appropriate “on order” items to that record. The newly created record wouldn’t be able to be linked back to…

  10. When an item record set is viewed on a tablet or mobile device in Leap, the record set layout changes to accommodate the change in screen size. This includes the Shelf Location column no longer displaying. Staff create item record sets for displays and when they go out into the stacks with Leap on a tablet to pull the items, not having the Shelf Location included slows them down as they have to open the item records individually.

  13. In Polaris, a single delete of a bib/item record will result in that record being 'marked for deletion.' It is no longer visible in the PAC, but is still visible in Polaris with a Deleted status. Deleting a record in Deleted status, or what we've termed 'double-delete,' will result in the record being fully purged from the database.

Sometimes, staff will delete a record and go back to it to verify the deletion. They see it's still visible in Polaris (missing the Deleted status) and delete it a second time. This accidental purging results in no longer being able to…

  14. Sometimes a single collection assignment for an item isn't enough. When you want to add an item to a collection only to find that it already belongs to another collection, it would be nice to be able to assign it to your collection as well. The item may belong to an awards collection like Newbery but also to a collection of picture books.

  15. While there are many advantages to way that Polaris calculates TOMs, there are currently some significant limitations for differentiating between formats. 4K BluRays, Playaways/Yotos, and video game systems are all very difficult to distinguish from one another when using only the MARC fixed fields. Additionally, many libraries are expanding their collections with Libraries of Things that are usually coded as "Kit" or "Three Dimensional Object" rather than describing what it actually is. These bib TOMS are also now featured prominently in Vega Discover's rollups.

Over on the Sierra side, the options for bibliographic format can be customized. If a library…

  16. In our Retain/Delete table we remove certain subject headings with specific indicators. When we save a Bib record, the Remote Authority Control checks EVERY heading then removes the tags marked for deletion and checks the headings again.

It'd be more efficient, time-wise, if Polaris deleted the tags first, then perform the Remote Authority Control.

  17. There are times when we could easily fix bib records via SQL but may run into issues where the index may no longer be valid and the updated bib records may not appear or be omitted in search results. Instead of requesting for a FULL database re-index, we could easily group the involved records into a Record Set and use Bulk Change with a "Miscellaneous" tab with the option "Re-index Bibliographic Records".

  18. When using a record set, it would be helpful if there was a column that shows when the item was added to the record set. We use record sets to create carousels that show new items on our PAC. The date added to record set would be helpful so we could remove the oldest things when refreshing our carousels.

  19. Some library staff need to be able to alter the label margin and font size for longer call numbers, longer author names, and longer titles, as well as how the printer prints that day. Currently, staff using Leap need to go back and forth between the Client and Leap to do so. Adding the label settings that are only accessible in the Client to Leap will make it easier for staff to make the transition to Leap by allowing them to maintain their workflow for their current printers.

  20. Item editing permission organizations are based on the Owning Branch of an item. However, permissions for item editing through the checkout page ('Manage Item Dialogs') are based on the item's Assigned Branch (as well as the check-in branch matching the assigned branch).

We think it makes sense for both these permissions to be aligned to the Owning Branch, otherwise it can leave room for inappropriate changes. For instance, in our consortia some items are owned by one library but lent to others (assigned to their libraries), and this gap has led to item changes by staff that shouldn't have had…
