An error occurred while saving the comment Shawn P. Farrell commentedAs a library that floats most of our collection, we too often see this problem & without this nuance, these items are very difficult to look for in the reports we produce. We'd love to see this addressed.

An error occurred while saving the comment Shawn P. Farrell commentedAdding some perspective from an Acquisitions Librarian I've spoken to. Beyond just making things easier for frontline staff to locate on behalf of patrons, staff who are weeding or who send in replacement requests often miscount the number of active copies.
Attached is a screenshot of an example title that you'd think is already easy to read, but filtering would make it clearer that we have 3 copies not 6 in circulation.
An error occurred while saving the comment Shawn P. Farrell commentedThis is absolutely essential! We'd love the ability to limit searches in Sierra to items that are currently available at a location & ready for checkout with an Available NOW style facet.
Not just owned by a location & possibly checked out, missing, in repair, etc., but on the shelf & just waiting for its next circulation.
The availability of such a feature would help frontline staff tasked with finding items for patrons go to the shelf with a better idea of what's actually going to be there for them to find, saving no small amount of time & effort.

An error occurred while saving the comment Shawn P. Farrell commentedThis was functionality we had in a previous ILS, long before the fine free craze had captured the attention of so many. I would imagine, if introduced, it would be as optional/configurable as any other block.
When a library has a clearly communicated policy for items claimed returned & staff are trained to & actually do follow through with shelf checks, it can be as effective as any other block. At CHPL, in addition to immediate shelf checks when a customer claims an item returned, we run regular reports for staff to act on, that help minimize the number of items that have actually been returned. We also reset the counter annually for those with no active claims on their account.

This might be helpful, though it's already a significant improvement to be able to point to a third party discovery layer (in my case, BiblioCore). Though our Catalogers & Acquisitions staff especially like to see that changes made to records have registered in the public display & are sometimes hindered by the lag in Bibliocommons. If they could quickly jump to the WebPac view as an alternative, they might be a little more sure that changes are displaying as intended.
