MARC records for non-Roman language materials come to us from OCLC with the vernacular script in the 880 fields. Since that doesn't display in Polaris/Leap like we want it to, we have been using MARC edit to swap the 880 fields with the transliterations contained in the regular MARC fields. We are hoping there can be a better way, and Polaris can simply let us choose to use the 880 fields for display when they are present OR display the 880 information alongside the transliteration.

There are several places where the transliteration appears when we'd like the vernacular script to appear. Especially important are areas the patron can see, like the checkout receipt, their PAC account, and overdues/bills, since, if they speak and read that language, they have no idea what the transliteration is, and they want to see the title in their language.

Using our workaround is not sustainable, since it breaks the links to the authority records, being that authority control is done from the regular fields and not the 880s where the authorized version of the name is currently being 'swapped to' for us.

We have been told that so far the only settings related to this would be within the Find Tool and that starting in Polaris 7.6 it is option to have the 880 title appear within the Find Tool when searching for bibliographic records, which is done by adding the Column “Title (Native Script)” to the Find Tool results. This gives users the option to see both the regular 245 title alongside the 880 title. We would want this functionality expanded upon to include what is described above.
