Edit Items via API
Polaris APIs provide the ability to edit both Bibliographic records and Patron records via API. This is very useful for internal processes as well as third party processing.

Hello,
Thank you for the follow‑up. Having the ability to edit all aspects of item records would be extremely beneficial. Below are several workflows where editing capabilities are needed:
Transit to Missing
When items become “stuck” in transit, we need a way to mark them as Missing so they can continue through the process and eventually be withdrawn. The steps include:Unchecking the Holdable box to prepare the item for the next step.
Checking in all items (we currently do this with PAPI). Making items non‑holdable ensures they do not get sent into transit again.
Updating the Item Circulation Status to Missing.General Item Cleanup
Using our internal matrix, staff frequently need to correct items that are inadvertently marked as non‑circulating, not holdable, or have incorrect display settings in the PAC. Currently, this is done manually using Record Sets. Automating this process through APIs would significantly reduce staff time.Unclaim to Missing
Occasionally, items are lost while on the hold shelf. Instead of having an automated process, staff must manually update those items to Missing. This becomes even more challenging when the item does not belong to that location. Automating the full workflow would save a tremendous amount of staff time. -
Hi Aaron,
Would you provide an example of what edits you'd like to make to items via the API? It helps us to understand the request if we know what problem you're trying to solve or workflow you want to support by using the API.
