Keep Bib Information for Deleted Records (for Reading History)
Unlike Polaris, when a record is deleted in Sierra, all information is deleted from the system. Unfortunately, this means that Sierra libraries would not be able to take advantage of the Vega Enhancement to "Display Deleted Titles in Reading History." Thus patrons only see "Resource is not available" in their Reading History.
Patrons opt in to keep their reading history assuming that the data will be there when they look for it. They don't understand why there is no record of it, think something is broken with the system.

Idea is pretty closely related to https://ideas.iii.com/forums/951745-ils-sierra/suggestions/47428049, which made it to the IUG ballot for 6.7 before expiring. Definitely worth another shot, particularly given the Vega implecations.

It would be nice to be able to rely on the reading history to see what I've actually read rather than 300 ugly customer unfriendly entries showing something was borrowed... but not what.
Might even help with those "I read it three years ago and it was the butler what did it and it had a blue cover" queries. -

This is one of the options for the Vega Discover MEEP (haven't voted yet), and the committee was shown it is doable for Polaris because the title, author, etc., is retained after the record is deleted. The Polaris customers will be able to see that it's been deleted but at least they can see the title/author (no cover, etc.), but Sierra users will be out of luck, the whole thing will be removed. I can see that driving someone crazy, if they know they read something and it disappears once we weed it from the collection.

Functional Requirements (what does it need to do?)
● Title and author remain visible even if bib or item records are deleted.
● APIs expose stored title/author fields, even if bibs/items have been deleted.
● Metadata retained indefinitely unless patron deletes it.
● Bulk bib deletion does not affect stored metadata.(Edited by admin) -

Customers want to know what titles they've checked out even if the library no longer has it. It would be ideal if Sierra (and subsequent discovery layers can pull the info) could save the title and author in the record metadata so that even if the bib record is deleted, the customer can see it.
