  7. Idea Description: Libraries often share their metadata between our system and external systems. One very convenient way of keeping the databases in sync is using the OAI-PMH protocol. Sierra currently supports OAI-PMH as a harvester, but not the converse; as a repository. We would like to see this protocol implemented to allow external systems to harvest from Sierra to lower the amount of intervention required to keep the data in sync between Sierra and an external repository.

Idea Value: Currently we use scheduler to generate review files and export data out of Sierra and transfer these files via FTP to…

  8. It would be very useful to be able to at least export (if not also filter/search on) the status date in Create Lists. We do things like delete items that have been in certain statuses for a certain number of months, and used to have to guess based on the updated date, but obviously records can be updated without the status being changed. Going forward (as newer items get status dates associated with them) we can check item-by-item by mousing over the status in the item record, but it would be a big help to have the date appear alongside…

  9. Provide system administrators the ability to export a user's permissions - both assigned and available. I am trying to provide an employee's manager with a list of the permissions her employee has, so she can see what should be added. There is no easy way to do this. I can't even copy/paste; when you highlight the permissions it just allows you to move them around vs. copying.

  10. Display the date that an item's status was last updated and make this field available in a SQL view.

    Idea Value
We'd like to be able to create reports that show how long an item has been in a certain status so we can take appropriate action (such as deleting long-missing items). Currently, we can only see the last date the record was updated, but the record may have been updated in some other way after the status was changed.

  11. In the Global Update function, "File" > "Save (Server)" should prompt the user to confirm if they attempt to overwrite an existing search.

Write-protection of specific saved global updates on the sever would provide additional assurance against data loss for very important/complex items.

    Idea Value
This would mitigate the risk of accidental data loss due to user error. Sophisticated searches may be saved to the server, the loss of which may require substantial work to recreate accurately.

As of Sierra 5.4, if a user working with an unsaved session accidentally selects "Save (Sever)" rather than "Load (Sever)", the "Save as..."…
