API / Content ingest for Kanopy
Add Kanopy as a third party connection

For libraries that contract with Kanopy, I highly recommend that you submit a request to Kanopy to add an API. Kanopy does track how frequently they receive requests for features, like an API. Based on the latest update from Samantha, we have now been added the list of libraries who have requested a Kanopy API with Kanopy directly. We would like to increase discovery of the Kanopy content within our catalog. As you know, the more requests that come in, the more likely it is to be developed. Thanks!

Kanopy does not have APIs so we cannot provide an API integration to circulate and sideload these materials in Vega at this time. We are working on an Non-Integrated eContent feature in Q3 of 2024 that I believe will help you better manage these collections. https://portal.productboard.com/iii/15-vega-product-portal/c/401-non-integrated-econtent-connections

Kanopy offers a wealth of materials especially for kids. It would beneficial for patrons not already familiar with the database to be able to discover items through the online catalog.

Having Kanopy materials ingested into Discover would help give patrons a more fleshed-out view of the materials available to them. Since they are used to the convenience of Hoopla and Overdrive materials being integrated into their searches, including another popular and robust collection like Kanopy would make the representation of our offerings more complete and make it more convenient for patrons to find what they are looking for.

I would like being able to easily integrate Kanopy but would need controls in place to only put in certain categories or by popularity, etc. They have a lot of content that we may not want showing up in our public catalog.
