I agree with automating it on a date set by the library. Ours operates on a July 1 - June 30 fiscal year, so having it automate on July 1 would be ideal.

This would help our circulation staff at branches where holds are kept behind the desk or not on self-service shelves. A similar linked patron notification alert would be helpful on Express Lane instances as well.
