Additional UI Customization Options
Across our consortium, we have some library staff who exclusively use Leap, some who exclusively use the Remote Client, and some who use both depending on the task.
Currently, there is only one system-level setting responsible for the Visual Alert Configuration (top banner color) in Leap & the Remote Client. Unfortunately, this doesn’t work well given that Leap has a light font color and the Client has a dark font color across the top, so to achieve an ideal level of contrast for both versions simultaneously is impossible.
To improve accessibility for all users, regardless of the version of Polaris they choose to use, we would like to see more customization options for the UI. Ideally, this would include the ability to change the banner color of Leap and the Remote Client independently from each other or the option to change the font color in the Client (or both!). Even better if this could become a branch-level setting.
Use Case:
We recently changed the banner color in Leap from light blue to navy for higher contrast against the light menu headings.
This looked great and we received positive feedback from our users regarding the change. However, this update had unintended consequences for staff using the Remote Client. The dark font in the heading became nearly unreadable against the navy banner.
We ended up switching to a ‘medium blue’ which has allowed for a workable contrast rating for both versions, but it isn’t ideal.
