Add Power Search features to Leap's OmniSearch
The usefulness of the OmniSearch box in Leap would be greatly enhanced by the addition of operators and Power Search (CCL) features so an experienced Polaris user could execute their search right away, in the OmniSearch, and get the results back in a Find Tool. As it is, if I want to search for, say, an item record, I need to:
- Click Find to launch the Find Tool
- Change the search type to Item Records
- Change whatever parameters I need to change after that.
- Maybe add a filter or two and then apply those filters
- Go back to the Find Tool and execute my search.
Now, of course I could just invoke the Find Tool, select Item Records, and set and save Power Search as my default search. But that means I'm still going to bounce around the Find Tool to select Item Records this time, and Bibliographic Records the next time, and Patron Records later on. It'd be great if I could skip all of that and use that CCL to run the search right in the OmniSearch box. For instance, if I were searching for an item record I could type:
KW="batgirl" AND AB = 5 AND MAT = 51 AND CS = 1
In our system that would mean an Item Record with a keyword of Batgirl, assigned to Redding, it's a graphic novel, and its circ status is In. Leap should know that I'm searching for an item because an Item Record is the only thing that can have a circulation status. In cases where the search could be ambiguous, a prefix could be used to indicate the search type. Maybe something like this to find a bibliographic record for "Along Came a Spider"
BR WITH Title="Along Came a Spider" AND AU="Patterson"
In some cases, a library might use macros to help with common searches that require multiple filters and touchpoints, so that the majority of a complex search can be quickly populated to the OmniSearch and the final parameters would need staff input.
Either way, an experienced Polaris user could save a lot of clicking and shuffling around the Find Tool system if they had the ability to run a Power Search style query right from the always available search box.

I'm putting the keywords Quick Search and Omnibox, Omni box and Omni Search in this comment for future reference when we go trying to find this.

This would be a wonderful addition for power users of the Leap and offer a nice transition for power users of the desktop client.
